The first week seems to be the worst. I also struggled with regret and cried most days of the first week. Just know that it gets better. I'm going on three weeks post-op and the first week seems so long ago. Keep your head up and welcome to the losers bench! :)

My stomach is very swollen. However i dont have red insisions. It hurts to walk becausemy stomach pulls down ahhhh!! I hope this gets better soon

Hey girl, yes we've made it! I also came home yesterday. Car ride wasn't fun either. With every pot hole came a yelp but I held a pillow over my stomach the whole ride which did help. I agree, the pulling feeling when walking is no joke but I actually have been taking 1/2 doses of the liquid pain relief. This helps the pain to not be present but for me to still be awake and coherent. I tried a Popsicle last night and that didn't feel good at all. It felt stuck. Every liquid i swallow feels bubbly and like it could come back up. Friday is a new day though. Hang in there!

Also, the gas has settled in my left shoulder making a sharp pain with any cough, nose blow, or swallowing. Dr. Says that will take time to release. Ugh.

I am at home, and for the meantime, feel like the pain and nausea are controlled.

I don't know why, but I guess I wasn't expecting the surgery/recovery process to be that hard. Is it worth it? Now that I am on the healing side, I am sure the answer will be yes. 48 hours ago, I am not sure I could have said it was worth it. I was in a real bad place.... Wowzers. I took a list with me of non-physical reasons I was going this and reminded myself of them often. That definitely helped.

Just being honest with the group. The surgery parts SUCKS....

I agree also..I.didn't expect the to be that hard but the first few days are brutal but 8 days out I feel great..bought a baking sit yesterday going to fit into by memorial day..sw254 cw 233

Day 8 and I'm hungry (real hunger) for the first time. Going to thin some yogurt.

Glad you're feeling better in the D! Each day gets easier!

The first week is the absolute worst. Walking is so very important, even if you have the take pain meds to do it.

I was March 7th. So far so good. I'm in Australian and I bought the whey Protein Powder that my dietician recommended, it's brand is Boomers and I can't taste it at all!

Good luck everyone :-)

I hope to eventually get enough protein from foods. I do NOT want to take protein supplements forever, yuck.

It does get better. My stomach was so swollen and tender to touch, and like you said gravity wasn't being nice either. Try and walk around with a firm pillow, that helped me a lot. I'd say by the end of the first week I could walk around relatively normal. It was getting up and sitting down that was the most uncomfortable.

Yes, that's the idea, with my dieticians plan, I'm off protein powder by week 6

2 more days to go until surgery. It sounds like those first few days can be rough. I appreciate everyone posting about it because it seems like by the end of the first week most people are doing fine. That is so helpful to know.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
