For dinner tonight I had 2 boca burger patties grilled (180 calories and 34g of protein!). The box said that the 2 patties are a total of 5oz in WEIGHT. My surgeon told me to aim for 4-6oz meals, but I'm thinking that's a VOLUME measurement.

When I finished eating I was no longer hungry and was satisfied. My restriction was telling me that I could not eat any more.

Bottom line. I ate 5oz of quality Protein and am full. Am I stretching my pouch in any way? Should I have eaten less and then snacked later, or is the 5oz amount in line with what my surgeon said and I need to relax? I'm worried that I'm stretching my pouch. (I don't eat and drink either).

Most people aim for 4 oz. But you are a man and you can probably handle that extra ounce...Dense Protein great..Not drinking while eating great..

Seems to me you are alright...

You are not that far out so you are not at the stage where your sleeve has relaxed and you could eat more....Keep to the 5 ounces as much as possible.....Your doing great!!!!!!!!!!!

Later on you can worry about eating too much ;)

Just at RJ said you are doing great. I wouldn't push past the 5 ounces however especially early on. Your body will give you plenty of cues when to stop. If you get a runny nose, sneeze, or hiccup it is time to stop. These are all bodily clues that you have reached full. Sounds like you are doing great! :)

I was kind of wondering about the same thing. I'm 2 months post op and can eat a. 5.3 oz conatainer of chobani yogurt. Is that a bad thing?

Dense foods fill your pouch faster and you get the feeling of fullness from it. More liquid like food like yogurt you can probably eat more....But there again should you!?

If you make it a habit to over eat you will in fact stretch your pouch. But not your pouch really. A bulge will form in your large intestine at the bottom of the flap.....Our body is resilient and accommodates us even when it is the wrong choices...So you would feel hunger again and be able to east almost as much as before...But is that the goal? No!

The goal is to fix the issues that caused you to become an addict. fix the mind and fix the body..they go hand in hand...

It absolutely does not come down to who can eat more...it comes down to success and learning the triggers and having the will power and courage to change...That is why it is called a journey not a sprint...

The pouch or sleeve give us the opportunity to get it done before our stomachs do relax. Fix our relationship with food and putting it in the proper place is a real success story.....K

I am a little concerned because you are only 6 weeks out! If you were six months...maybe? I am appropching the 3 year mark and I can barely that much dense Protein at once. I wasn't even healed enough to feel fullness at that point. I could eat Maybe 1 tablespoon of food at 6 weeks. I am not trying to sound rude at all I am just concerned you are not feeling everything yet cause you are still healing. I don't think you should be concerned with streching your sleeve yet, but concerned with a possible leak. My surgeon says it really takes 4-8 weeks to heal and have all the swelling gone from the trauma of surgery.

I don't think you should be concerned with streching your sleeve yet, but concerned with a possible leak. Okay this post is a bit frightening for me because I'm wondering if I'm screwing it all up. I am less than four weeks post-op and I've had absolutely no issues. I was back at work 4 days after surgery. My recovery has been remarkable and so far, I'm feeling like getting the sleeve is the best thing I've ever done. As of today, I've lost 13 lbs since surgery but things have slowed down considerably since introducing real food back into my diet nearly one & half weeks ago.

I faithfully did the Liquid Protein diet for the first two weeks both pre and post-op, but then quickly moved to meat after the two week post-op liquid diet was completed. I immediately tolerated well-chewed chicken, beef, pork and even chili very well. I eat about 4-5 oz. of Protein three times a day, along with sipping one 20 oz. bottle of Isopure Protein Drink throughout the day. Although the guidelines given to me say that I can have as much as 1 cup of food at a time, I don't and won't. It's true what everyone says, my body tells me if I've had one bite too many. Now that I'm eating real food I feel really good and have more energy, but have I done too much too fast? I've been working under the premise that my body will tell me if something doesn't work for me. Am I looking at this wrong?

You can eat whatever because you are one of the few that have no issues with what you put in your new stomach. that is wonderful. most of us have foods that we can no longer eat because our stomachs revolt and cause a small war to happen. No one is saying that you have to have problems eating. You are one of the lucky ones in this journey. You have tons of choices you can make to make these changes easier.

It is not about how much really. It is about following the guidelines that your Doc sets for you. it is about learning better habits and eating better quality foods instead of the standard junk food that we all used to reach for. It is about fixing our thinking process and fixing the emotional reasons why we got to this point that we needed this surgery in the first place...That is the real work...If you feel that you are on target then fine. As long as you see what the trigger foods are that you are able to eat tons of and keep protein and Water first and for most in your journey. You will succeed....

Some really do call this the easy way out but it is the hardest thing that I have ever started and worked on in my life...Ups and downs, so many...

The sleeve size can vary according to Doctors and height of an individual...but the core of the program remains the same...

I think as long as you are not having any issues, don't stress. I had a lot of swelling post-op, some people don't. Don't worry too much!!

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
