Wasabubblebutt,

I am sorry I have to disagree.

We lapbanders are not here because we are all completley physically fit and have been sporting a 1200 calorie diet.

We are here because we are food addicts who have put our body in danger by stuffing it with a huge caloric diet.

There is no way that you can tell me that your body is not in shock. You have gone from consuming not only a huge amount of calories but also a huge quantity of food.< /p>

Then you have the surgery, you cut your calories by atleast 3/4 during the healing stage, and the portion down enormously.

I have heard on the fourms again and again people saying, "I am doing everything correct and I have not lost." Then somebody consoles them by saying, "YOUR BODY HAS TO CATCH UP TO YOUR DIET, drink Water and do what the dietian says and the pounds will drop." The person then writes back, Yes, you were right, I had a big drop.

Just for the record I did end up in ICU because of that darn sleep apnea:cry,

Guys I can't wait to rid myself of that.

Janine, What was a Bubble Butt is saying that it is technically not shock.

Shock is a life threatening condition that occurs when the body is not getting enough blood flow. This can damage multiple organs. Shock requires immediate medical attention and can get worse very rapidly.

Types of shock are:

Cardiogenic: associated with heart problems

Hypovolemic: caused by inadequate blood volume

Anaphylatctic: caused by an allergic reaction

Septic: associated with infections

Neurogenic: caused by damage to the nervous system.

It can also be caused by any condition that reduces the blood flow; such as:

Heart problems, as in heart attack or heart failure

Low Blood Volume; as with heavy bleeding or dehydration

Changes in blood vessels; as with infection or allergic reaction

In our society people tend to use the word shock very loosely. I have come across many car crash scenes to hear people shouting to hurry, that the pt. is in shock! When in reality, they may be dazed from a spuck to the head, or any other trauma, but shock is usually not the case.

What about that "sugar in the raw" stuff?

I am still a splenda addict because I can not drink unsweet tea or plain Water. I have to have some kind of "flavor" to it and I just dont want to add 300 more calories to my diet. I drink A LOT of Decaf tea and should drink more water.

Once I do get to goal, I will dump the sweetner because I do think its not good for you. However, 300 cal. is 300 cal that I am not consuming.

Try Stevia. It's a natural, calorie-free sweetener that has no aftertaste or chemicals. It's very good and has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar. For more information, go to  http://www.stevia.com.

Giving up sugar in tea and coffee is extremely easy. It takes 2 weeks tops, there's way harder dietary challenges to face than that.

That solves all problems - no sugar AND no artificial sweetener.

Just cut it out.

Of course that doesnt solve the problem of other sweet foods, but this one is really very easy to do.

I love this thread! It was hyped up for a second there. 1 week now, still kicking ass and eating sensable food. Not overdoing it but not underdoing it either.

Thansk everyone for voting for Sanjaya. Lets get the phones ready for next week.

p.s. the gas sucks!

p.s. the gas sucks!

So does Sanjaya...lol

I have never watched Idol, ever...but I have seen enough clips of Sanjaya to determine two things:

1) he's not a he, he's a she!

2) s/he sucks but is still there because s/he is so controversially bad.

Back to the topic:

I got some agave sweetener, it's QUITE good!

How can Splenda, Equal or any other calorie free sweetner contribute to weight gain? I'm sure many people don't tolerate the chemicals that make up these sweetners, that's another issue. But gaining weight from drinking sugar free sodas? How can you gain weight if there's no calorie content? Point me to the studies, please.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
