My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, 2014. I am getting anxious/nervous. I am worried about getting all of the Protein in after the surgery because I have had a hard time drinking the Protein shakes during this whole past week of liquids only. I want to try the Protein Shots, hoping they will be easier to get down. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try different flavors of Protein Shakes. I used Mio and Dasani Water flavor drops to change up the vanilla shakes. PB2 is great to add to chocolate and vanilla shakes. I also used a lot of Unjury unflavored Protein Powder mixed with various broths and diluted, strained cream Soups which was a great savory change from all the sweet shakes. In general, I found all RTD shakes too sweet and thick, so I dilute them with water or skim milk (which gives you even more protein). A lot of people also like the Isopure Protein water which gives you a whole different texture and flavor selection from shakes. (I only tried grape and fruit punch and only liked grape.)

Thank you for all of your tips Kindle. I really appreciate it. I just ordered a few things from unjury to try. The Protein shake powder I have now is from GNC and they are not agreeing with me at all, not to mention they were very expensive. Your stats are great! I hope I am as successful as you!

Why did you have a problem getting Protein Shakes down? i'm about to start mine, and wondering why you had a problem? what are the shots? where do you get them? JewelJ

I didn't like the taste or the consistency of them, they felt to heavy in my stomach too. The Protein shots are a 3 oz. bottle of Protein, so it is less to drink, but I have read that they are nasty tasting too. I am going to give them a try though because 3 oz is better than 8 oz. I got the shake mix at GNC but then found out that Walmart has the same thing for more than half the price. I am going to check walmart out tomorrow for the shots.

I have to experiment with my shake-making in order to come up with something that I like and it tends to work. For instance, I mix unsweetened almond milk with chocolate almond milk (because I'm not a chocolate fan) and then add 2 scoops of Protein powder. I also use plain yogurt or regular almond milk and blend with frozen fruit (peaches, strawberries, blueberries) w/powder. I HATE the pre-packaged Protein shakes and there's no one way to make your own shake/smoothie to get your protein in as long as you watch the carbs & calories. This is a link that I found on this website earlier http://www.advancedbariatricsurgery.com/forum/?f=10. I'm also going to order my powder from Jay Robb because those are lower in calories and carbs and higher in protein. http://www.jayrobb.com/default.asp.

I liked them but they grew old quick. My husband (non-sleever) is still buying them after I quite drinking them.

I am still a fan of muscle milk light.

You can return opened items to both GNC and The Vitamin Shoppers but you have to have the receipt.

My nut said not to use the shots that they are collagen, which isn't absorbed efficiently. I have read somewhere that there is a really high quality shot that you can order online that aren't. Look on the label for collagen. If it's on there, then it's practically worthless.

I used the shots. I've lost a few pounds so I think they helped me get my Protein in during the early days.

Hi you. I am just saying what she told me. That the amt of Protein absorbed was deceiving. You don't absorb whatever percentage is from protein collagen.

Keep in mind that ingredients are listed in the order of highest percentage included to lowest. On those shots protein collagen is usually listed as the first or second protein source, which means they can be 75% of the protein source, and won't be absorbed efficiently. Of course my nut is so dang strict....

There is a delicious Protein Shake powder called "Oh Yeah" Total Protein by ISS Research. I love their vanilla and Cookies and cream. 32 G protein per serving.

Also, I ordered a sample pack of Unjury protein powder packets. They even have an unflavored one that can be added to any food or liquid. Many sleeve patients use that stuff.

I read that those 42g protein shots do not have good quality protein in them.

Another brand I have read about on here that I just ordered is Syntrax. They have a sampler pack of 11 packets of flavored protein powder called nectar that would be good for our first couple weeks post op. You mix it in Water. I think I ordered it from Bjsbariatrics.com. They also have Syntrax Matrix which is protein shake powder. I think they have 23 or so g protein.

I ordered Oh Yeah and Syntrax Matrix from allstarhealth.com.

I will begin my pre-op diet Tuesday and have surgery 1/31.

My best to you with surgery Tuesday!

If you get the Syntrax sample pack, mix the grapefruit one with Crystal Light Lemonade and it will taste like Fresca.

I drank the Protein Shots the first few weeks after surgery. The shakes were not agreeing with me and the shots were a lot easier to choke down for a while. My NUT said they were fine to use.

I have been buying Syntrax Protein powders from Amazon - the price was lower than purchasing it at the Doctors office, who recommends it for both his medically supervised and surgical weight loss patients.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
