Well I don't know where to start... I finished the race and did it in 35 minutes which I a very proud of. That being said I think I chose the wrong race for my first 5k. First off I didn't realize it wasn't timed ok no biggie I used my nike shoe pod... Then there was the 65% of the people who came to Run or Dye and walked the entire thing. Now I figured there would be some walkers but at several points it was impossible to pass them and forced me to slow almost to a walk until I could get to a spot to pass. That's was super frustrating. I trained and I came to run today. Last and most frustrating was the fact that I didn't realize (not sure how) that tons of runners and volunteers would be launching the colored flour at multiple stations throughout the course. So after the very first flour launching I proceed to go into an asthma attack and the struggle began. I pushed myself and tried to cover my face with my shirt at the other 3 stations but this did not really help. I was wheezing and struggling for air for 3/4 of the run. I did not stop and I finished in good time but I thought I was gonna pass out right in my husbands arms. I had to be taken to the medics for oxygen. So needless to say this will be my last color type run. Still happy I committed , showed up, and finished despite the obstacles.

Good job on the run sorry about the asthma flare u but how amazing I didn't give up although for future reference breathing is very important and a race can wait :)

Thank you so much Mikee57!!!!!!!!!!!!! @ you are my hero! I am so inspired by your strength and determination! I can only imagine how proud you must be! Way to go girl and a huge congrats on finishing and getting your medal!!! ddc4fddcaacdf89 do you think there are more Spartan races in your future????

Do a 5k rugged maniac race / mud run I signed up when I first got banded determined to do the race with my friends. I cheered them

On last year while on my preop diet they have no idea I was being or am banded. Almost passed out in the heat but this year I'm running it and next year definitely doing the spartan spring again and they have a longer version I might actually do . Saying I can't is no longer and option I must try Carolina girl want power phrases is with me always !!!!

I know that someday I will be walking or swimming (again I pray-hurts my knees to kick right now) miles in the pool, but for now I am happy that I am doing as much as I do and that I am no longer idle. Yall are my inspirations and each day I know it gets easier...thanks Carolinagirl for putting this post together so we can post to it when we know we have accomplished a goal.

I will be banded next week, Monday the 27th. But I thought I would get a jump on the exercise, today I was at Disney World. I walked around both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot for several hours. Tomorrow, it is back to my regular workweek. Wake up and go to the gym by 5 AM, then had to work. I'm looking to go for 40 minutes on the elliptical tomorrow.

I'm hoping that after I am banded it won't take too long to get back to the gym. I'm also looking forward to taking my puppy dogs on walks around the lake more often.

I forced myself to wake up at 4:30 AM today, and was at the gym by 5:15 I was on the elliptical for 33 minutes and ran 4 1/2 miles. I felt lots of energy all day long, but now I'm starting to tire out.

11.8 miles on the elliptical this morning! two tenths less than my last run, but still a good run. I am now more than half way to my goal weight!

Happy Monday all,

I got a nice ride in on the bike this morning. It is really nice here in the St. Louis area this morning.

35.5 miles @ 18.0 mph = a nice way to burn 1100 calories.

Happy Hump Day! I've been busy at both jobs and the weather in St. Louis is not helping my workout schedule. Since it's supposed to be raining off and on today I will be doing this workout throughout the day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEpMe-GCfnY. No excuses right!! :)

I ran my 5th 5K for the week this morning. As I was running I was thinking about how 3 months ago I didn't think I would get through day 1 of C25K. In still in awe at how far I've come in 11 months. The band has truly given me a life back. At the gym with hubby now to lift just gonna do legs and abs don't want to push it yet. Have a great weekend all!!!!!!!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
