Today's the day my Spartan obstacle race running up hill carrying a tree trunk and dragging a cinder block in the woods. Climbing over a wall climbing a very high rope over mud to ring a bell long crawl under barbed wire and more gulp I am scared as hell but in doing it.

If you told me a year ago I would be doing this I would of told you you were crazy and a million excuses why that's not for me. The one u never thought of was I was to dam fat and unhealthy. I'm still scared of heights but I'm going to do it I'm 100 pound less and way healthier and more fit.

I got this and instead of planning a week to recover I have a family party tonight I can not miss so my dress is packed in the car after race off to Celebrate a milestone for a family member knowing I can do this race and finish strong . (With a few prayers and help from my team members and my want power {thanks @carolinagirl)

It's finally here my first 5K run today. I am super excited and still in shock that I am actually doing it. I am just coming out of a lupus flare that is causing severe back spasm. I rested it and treated it for a few days and woke up feeling much better today thank goodness!! I trained for 9 weeks and it would only be my luck to have a flare this week. But lupus doesn't get to win anymore I'm ready and I'm gonna go and do my best!!

Well I don't know where to start... I finished the race and did it in 35 minutes which I a very proud of. That being said I think I chose the wrong race for my first 5k. First off I didn't realize it wasn't timed ok no biggie I used my nike shoe pod... Then there was the 65% of the people who came to Run or Dye and walked the entire thing. Now I figured there would be some walkers but at several points it was impossible to pass them and forced me to slow almost to a walk until I could get to a spot to pass. That's was super frustrating. I trained and I came to run today. Last and most frustrating was the fact that I didn't realize (not sure how) that tons of runners and volunteers would be launching the colored flour at multiple stations throughout the course. So after the very first flour launching I proceed to go into an asthma attack and the struggle began. I pushed myself and tried to cover my face with my shirt at the other 3 stations but this did not really help. I was wheezing and struggling for air for 3/4 of the run. I did not stop and I finished in good time but I thought I was gonna pass out right in my husbands arms. I had to be taken to the medics for oxygen. So needless to say this will be my last color type run. Still happy I committed , showed up, and finished despite the obstacles.

naenaern777 Congrats on your time, and for that you endured to make this 1st 5k so eventful and almost harmful to your health sweet one!!! hope your breathing is okay...no idea they did that with flour but no where will I ever be doing a 5k so have no idea what they do at them. but glad you got through it and the time you did it in to me was amazing with all the obstacles you were faced with....CONGRATS! CONGRATS! CONGRATS!

It took me 3:45 to complete the Spartan 15 obstacles 4.2 miles of crazy difficulty mountain terrain. I stopped along the way to help team mates I refused to let anyone give up. I tried every obstacles even the ones I knew I couldn't do . I did not give up. I literally had team mates on my shoulders so they could get over walls and do monkey bars. I climbed Steep muddy hills walked in muddy Water that smelled like **** crawled and yes even rolled under barb wire with rocks and mud. I even cried when no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get over the slanted 14 foot wall.. That was the most mentally and physically taxing thing I ever did to date. I am sore and seriously achy but a year ago that would of been something I would never attempt but not only did I attempt it I finished it.

@naenaern777

Congrats congrats congrats!!! Way to go! Thats a great time, especially considering what sounds like a packed course, not to mention the breathing issue. You only run your 1st 5k once, and it sounds like you really kicked butt! So happy for you.

@

What a great race report! Those obstacle runs are intimidating to me...haven't done one yet myself. I don't think I could do the wall either. Kuddos to you for helping your teammates get through it! That sounds like one tough event. Congrats on the accomplishment!! You'll never forget that first one.

I have been battling a head cold since Wednesday morning that has really kicked my behind. Was gonna do a 5k race yesterday but just didn't feel like I could give even 50%, so I just skipped it and did a 5k run this morning on my own after reading your all insipiring reports. So proud of my fellow WLS runners!!! You all are winners in my book!

Hope everyone is recovering nicely and enjoying their weekend.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
