Hi Guys, sorry for not posting for a couple of days had some sickness in the family. I have been on to ACS today spoke to Feena her colleague Corina had left a message for me on Saturday assuring me that I would get an email from Dr Jan with an appointment over the weekend. Needless to say that did not happen. Like so many others I was not able to make the last meeting. Feena has told me she will ring me back this afternoon. Are we all going our own way about fighting ACS?

I agree that the media are not helping our position. I agree with Lil that it is unlikely that Jerome will come back again to Belfast after this. These articles in the Mail on Sunday are totally one sided. They are making it sound like Jerome has High court cases pending against him by band patients and as far as I am aware, it is actually other plastic surgeons who were employed by ACS who have cases against them for tummy tucks etc not Jerome. I know of several people who rang the journalist from The Mail on Sunday stating that they were happy with the treatment they had from Jerome and stating their support for him, but he didn't mention this in his article. I do feel that Jerome is being used as a scapegoat to get at ACS. I really don't think it would help our cause to go to the media - all they want is a story, they're not concerned about whether we are getting aftercare or not. Someone obviously tipped off this journalist about Lou doing fills, and now she is gone, about Jerome doing fills in Belfast and that might be the end of that too. I think we need to deal diretly with ACS, as soon as we know what our legal position is.

Hi Terry,

I'm not sure if my Dr. does Lipo, looking at his website he does tummy tucks but I did read somewhere that he works in conjunction with other dr's who perform lipo. The website is Welcome to Obesity Assists's site. I would contact Dr. DeBruyne and see if he does it or can recommend one of his colleagues. Best of luck.

Hello everyone

I think I would be very angry and scared if I had been banded at ACS. At E10K all of you deserve better and while additional surgery may be difficult at the moment for ACS there is no reason why they should not be able to provide good after care. From what I gather from the posts here ACS have always been managed very badly with everyone (except perhaps Coco) getting angry and frustrated and not knowing what the future will bring.

I can understand that many of you don't want the world to know that you've been banded, but for the sake of your health and the fact that you paid E10 grand you have to act. If I were one of you I would be organising a meeting of all of you to meet and decide exactly what you want from ACS and write it down point for point.

I would write to the owner of ACS outlining exactly what your concerns are and what you want done about it. I would be asking for a meeting with her giving her a choice of 2 or 3 dates. If she doesn't answer, and I have a feeling she won't, I would then organise as many of you as possible ( the more the merrier) and all meet at the ACS offices determined to stay there until you meet her. But you all have to be committed and you have to be clear in what you want and stick to that.

I presume you all signed contracts with ACS. Let that be the basis for what you want.

Sitting around and hoping for the best isn't going to bring change.

Marge

hi marge just reading your last post and wondering are you a gastric band patient or are you thinking about having one, i was banded last febuary myself and i am very curious to know a little about yourself and your interest in our site.

Hi Terry,

What are you like  page 42, here I copied it for you......

I'm heading over there in March for some Lipo and an arm lift with Dr dedonckers who is a colleague of Dr de Bruyen in Jan Portaels hopspital. Can't wait. De Bruyen will defill and refill my band as I'll be getting a general anaesthetic for the lipo.

Thats from a post by Ellen. I'm sure she won't mind me copying it for you. Hope it helps.

Hi Holly123,

My sentiments exactly. I hope ACS have read enough on this forum for them to take matters into their own hands and not wait until they receive a heap of letters from us. It is only common courtesy to notify all their patients of changes to their agreed aftercare. Its the only way that they can restore any level of confidence from us.

Laura

His name is Patrick Dedonckers. Website: BVBA Dr. P. Dedoncker and it gives you the full price lift. Lipo is 2500 for full body. Bear in mind there are limits to what is safe to extract in one go....... unfortunately. He operates from the same hospital in Vilvoorde as Dr deBruyne. I'll know more next week but he has a lot of admirers on another UK site I visit.

Hi everyone

Someone was asking recently about getting tax back on the op (cant remember who but hopefully she's reading). Anyway Im very pleased to report that I got my full 41 percent back today (based on the full amount that appeared on my credit card statement - I hadnt realised until recently that the credit card company added on a few hundred euro in charges for a stirling transaction). Anyway the tax office didnt look for a letter from my doctor but they rang me and I assured them that it had been medically recommended.

Forgot to ask you Laura what are you thinking of getting done in Belgium? I have a 'shopping list' as long as your arm and am planning to be like the new improved bionic woman as soon as is humanly possible!!!

Hmmmmm... wonder does the tax office offer a rebate on teeny weeny neck lifts?????? All the best

Ellen

Hi Folks,

Spoke to ACS the other day. Apparently there is a letter going out to all banded patients in the next few days.

Not 100% sure what this letter is detailing but im guessing its to do with the current situation. Should be interesting. Might be an idea to stand ground untill we see what they've gotta say for themselves.

Has anyone got theirs yet ?! (post is sooo slow here )

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
