Congratulations!!

Very exciting news! Mine was 1-13 (Monday) and I am home now.

There was one time when the thought "what have I done!?" crossed my mind while I was still in the hospital but now that I am home there's no doubt in my mind I did the right thing. I'm probably nuts for thinking this, but on the drive away from the hospital my husband asked me what I was thinking and I said it felt strange to leave a piece of my body that has been with me my entire life behind. The only other time I've been hospitalized was to have my daughter and of course when we drove away that time I had my wonderful baby to bring home with me. I think a lot of it was just fatigue and screwy emotions mixed with the pain meds and everything else. Now that I've had a full night's sleep and am on a more regular schedule I'm so excited for this next phase of my life. I already feel lighter and more positive about my life in general. Great decision for me for sure!

How long did it take you? I go to info meeting tomorrow.

Well I decided in June this is what I wanted. I had to save for my portion of the cost. I'm guessing had I been ready from the start it would have taken 4-6 weeks to get scheduled. I guess it depends on insurance requirements etc. I paid

My portion on Monday and got scheduled today.

How long did it take you? I go to info meeting tomorrow.

My initial consultation was the second week of Nov or so. I self-paid so I was basically at the mercy of the scheduling desk. I had an endoscopy 12-13 or so, and then was instructed to begin the liquid diet on 12/30 for a surgery date of 1/13/14. So from start to finish, only a couple of months. I explored the insurance route, but they required either 6 months or a year of counseling and classes and stuff. I didn't want to wait that long and it wasn't very expensive anyway so I just jumped right in I guess you could say.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
