What are you eating 8 weeks out?

Recommended Posts

I'm 8 weeks too.

B-low carb tortilla, 1 egg white( or egg), 1 turkey sausage, half slice 2% cheese. Made into a burrito. Cant finish the entire tortilla.

sugar free iced coffee 2Tbls of half and half.

L- lean cuisine. Today I had glazed chicken. 240 calories. Didn't finish all the rice, but ate the chicken. 22g of Protein. a few slices of cucumber

D- I made a sauté yesterday with mushrooms, broccoli, onions and peas, a touch of wine and chicken broth, a sprinkle of parmesean. I mixed in 2 ounces of low carb Pasta. I ate maybe 1/2 cup total. I have enough left for 2 or 3 more meals. I only used 1 very thin chicken breast.

I bought some Quest bars, so will probably have half later for a snack. So sick of Protein shakes.

Atkins diet website is a good place and they have an app to record all your foods. You can see how much protien, carbs and fat that you had and can set up goals. There are free recipes too! I enjoy the Atkins protien bars for meals and Snacks. They also have protien shakes and frozen meals full of Protein.

So I just met with my surgeon. 8 weeks on Monday and she wants me to stay with two shakes a day and 1 meal...no Snacks. Prior to seeing her I was following the nutritionist and was leaning off the shakes to 1 one a day and 3 small meals ranging to 700-800 day. I've only lost post op 26lbs. She wants me to stay at 600 calories a day. I feel like I don't eat but Lord back to the shakes so depressing. Taking it day by day.

I think so - The Protein is important so you don't lose lean muscle mass. Lean muscle mass is what burns calories and keeps your metabolism rev'd up.
Sometimes the thought of drinking another shake makes me want to run myself over with my own car. But, I look at it as medicine - medicine my body needs to keep working.

[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]. I'm tired of the shakes, too!!

A little help?

I'm using myfitnesspal user name Scarlet Ginger (friends welcome as it is very encouraging) but I'm having trouble tracking Protein it doesn't seem to do that well in this app. Any suggestions??

In MyFitnessPal - at the bottom of the diary page there is button for "nutrition". That will display a pie chart of your macros (protien, carbs, fats). That will display the % of each macro plus the total grams you recorded.

Ok I have a Protein dilemma. I am losing weight like crazy. But I'm losing hair too. I know I don't eat enough protein and I don't see a nut. I work crazy long hours gone 12 hours,a day with my commute. I can eat all foods now but I find Snacks agree with my stomach better. I usually eat a small apple with 2 tbs Peanut Butter for Breakfast 9 grams protein , a string cheese and a few ff mini pretzels for lunch 7 grams protein, or a bowl of special k protein Cereal 9 grams protein, then for supper I'll have about 3 bites of chicken or steak and a couple bites of a vegetable like green Beans it's usually about 20 grams protein . And I just drink Water all day. I've lost 65lbs in 8 weeks. I started with the Protein Shakes but I'm so burnt out. But the hairloss is awful.

I alternated my protein shakes because after a while, they start to taste really chalky. I'll do one month or so of the vanilla flavored and then i buy the powder for the nectar Protein Drinks. I prefer the strawberry kiwi flavor personally. Its not as thick as the vanilla/chocolate shakes. Its 100 calories and 23g of protein per serving. I drink it like as part of my regular water intake, not as a Meal Replacement.< br>
Even 2 yrs post-op I still have at least 1 Protein Shake a day so I had to find something that works for me.

Try the nectar brand of protein shakes they have grab and go pouches and they have an iced tea flavor that takes like liptons ice tea or crystal light.. it's not a thick Protein Shake at all so it goes down like water. I buy them from Amazon and I shake them in my water bottle (don't blend them, it foams up). Each pouch has 23 grams of protein and I find it a good way to get my protein and water in without that heavy feeling of traditional protein shakes and no overly sweet aftertaste

Ack! I was told to be off shakes by eight weeks. I couldn't have done it. I was so over shakes! I feel for you. Wonder why they'd rather you do that over real food.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
