Why Dieting Usually Doesn't Work -- a Ted Talk

Recommended Posts

http://www.ted.com/talks/sandra_aamodt_why_dieting_doesn_t_usually_work.html

Hi there, I've been watching Ted Talks while working out and this one struck me as quite interesting. The speaker, a neuro-scientist, has some thoughts on what so many of us already know: diets don't work. There is a missed opportunity here as WLS is not discussed, but I still really enjoyed the background from a scientific point of view.

In my own life I have been such a professional dieter (though unsuccessful, obviously) and I tend to be a restricter, so I am working the mindfulness angle heavily in terms of assessing my hunger and whether or not I am delaying eating because I am so used to the old mentality of deprivation. For the first time, I feel hope in this area. I feel very connected to my brain and my stomach -- so happy for my band!

Isn't it great when you know when you are truly hungry. The first time my stomach ever growled after surgery was the first time I ever heard it for my whole adult life.

Great post Bandista! I have had to assess hunger so many times this week - I have been dealing with a lot of head hunger & cravings. It's a constant battle. I do feel like I am winning the battle though...

My stomach growls SO much now. It's almost a 'production' in itself! LMAO

Many of us do not follow our dieting plan perfectly, better to say almost 90% people can't keep up with it. Our daily life work gets more priority than maintaining and sticking to our dieting plan. Another is peer pressure. I love chocolate. And, I also need to follow my diet schedule.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
