Vitamins and protein :(

Recommended Posts

Ladibush I have mentioned Smart shakes at complete nutrition in several threads and it seems as if nobody has heard of it. I love the vanilla and the v-core orange creamscicle is good every once in a while too.

I have read that we can only absorb 30 grams of Protein in a meal and the rest just goes straight through.

Today is such a disappointment :( I am so sad that I can't stop my tears. Today I tried 4 different Proteins and I had to throw everything I made because I was disgusted :(... I was always a very picky eater. I loved sweets that was my problem.... I am soooooo sad I was only able to get like 15g of Protein maybe it's even less.. I don't know what to do or what to get. I spend over 200$ on protein products and I did not like any of them at all!!! I can't believe I did this to myself :( I am probably never going to be the same!!

Today was my first day taking vitamins... I took one Multivitamin that I bought from my surgeons office and I almost threw up.. I will never take it again. I took the B12 under my tongue and it was ok not the best but not something I can't tolerate. I didn't even try the Calcium because it looked exactly like the multivitamin. Today was just sooooo horrible. I was disappointed and I literally forced myself but just couldn't.

Then I cleaned my room thoroughly and did 2 loads of laundry. I had too because I am a freak clean. The problem? Well when I took a shower my scar by my chest was feeling like it's burning and I looked at it and it's kinda open :( it's not like the other ones. I took the shower anyways and went to the gym after. The gym was closing at 5 and I get there at 4:30 and I was so upset.

Went to cvs to try and buy some other Vitamins because I don't want to give up. I found some chewable calcium vitamins that are caramel and chocolate and I bought both since it was buy one get one free. I tried the caramel and I loved it. It tasted like candy and I chewed it really really well and it didn't upset my stomach. I hope I will like the chocolate. I also bought fruit burst multivitamin which I will take with my dinner. I hope I will like it. I know these are probably not approved by the surgeon but I do want to take something and I have to take these.

I really don't know what to do about protein. The only think that had high protein which I liked was the Greek yogurt. Farina only had 2g. Uhg this is so frustrating and upsetting.

I tried a Jello sugar free double chocolate pudding which I've been craving since day of surgery and now that I am allowed to have it, my tummy didn't like it so much :(.. Maybe I ate it to fast and I will give it another try. I also am having mashed potatoes for dinner and I hope I will like them. The supermarket have them now in 4oz cups and microwaveable. I might add some sour cream. I am working so hard to lose weight and eat right. But I think I am going to have a hard time because I am a really really picky eater that it's unbelievable. :(

Today was just a really bad day. I know everyone says it will get better but when?

Ugh! You have just posted every motion I have and am 5 days out however broke into tears with all the food cravings and hunger pains and now wishing I didn't do this please someone tell

Me I won't regret this the rest of my life please please the only way I'm getting protein in is slim fast I have tried very other shake spent tons of money and just the smell gags me right now I'm wondering is there a way to undue the staples and give me my stomach back I think I'm going crazy!

I had a really hard time with Protein shakes/powders too. I have lots here that I will be giving to my NUT to offer as samples to others. However, I finally found CorePower -- it's light and smooth and my stomach and taste buds say OK! Vanilla I mix with hot chocolate mix in the evening! Strawberry/banana in the morning -- when I can. Don't give up! There is something out there for you!

I'm feeling better. I never liked cottage cheese until yesterday..my amazing co-worker always searching new Protein food for me. She tells me to get the whipped cottage cheese which is only 4g of carbs and 16g of protein for 4oz. I tried it last night and omg I was in love with it. Still I am not getting more than 30g of protein but that's all I can do for now. I am forcing myself to take the Vitamins though. Of course my co-worker is on my ass and always reminding me haha... I don't know what I would do without her. I know she doesn't want me to get sick so she is always checking up on me :)

Oh shoot. First time I have heard this. Tell me this isn't so. I drink 55 grams in the am for Breakfast. Doubling my powder in milk. Do you have a good source for this?

I guess I'll have to do one at night now and stop doubling my am one. Gah.

There are varying opinions on this subject. Nutritionists will tell you different things based on their research, schooling and doctor's orders of what to tell you. The National Institute of Health states it is a myth and there is no way to 100% state the absolute amount of Protein absorbed at one time. The absorption rate of all Vitamins, minerals and nutrients (both macro and micro) varies among each individual. My best suggestion is to do what works for you as long as your labs are coming back within normal ranges for you. Too often we compare ourselves to one another but everyone's journey is different since our bodies are so different. Always adhere to your body's signals and lab results! If in doubt, follow your doctor's suggestions.

On a side note, I went to GNC yesterday and was able to taste several samples of Protein shakes before purchasing both some ready made shakes and some Protein Powder that tastes great mixed in water! You may check to see if your local GNC has samples available. I used to love chocolate Protein Shakes but can not stomach them post surgery. It is funny how much changes in our bodies after surgery!

Doña boss, 30 gr of Protein is great if that's what you can do at this point. The DSers all say that's a reasonable goal for the first month. You can raise it in the second month. Hang in there. You are going through one of the toughest times for most of us.

Omg you think so? That makes me feel so much better. I've been eating cottage cheese twice a day which equals 32g alone. Plus I have light and fight Greek yogurt which is 12g of protein each. I guess I'm not doing so bad

Donaboss, I feel so bad to hear your tough day! My NUT suggests making double Protein milk by adding 1/4 cup of powdered skim milk to regular milk. You could drink it or if you don't like the flavor plain, you could use it to make creamy Soup or pudding. I use it to make cream of wheat or oatmeal. Also the protein powders can mix into yogurt or shakes as someone else suggested. If you have a gaping wound you need to call your surgeon. Hang in there!

Try Pure Protein. It has 23 grams of protein and only 110 calories. I drink the chocolate and it tastes a lot like chocolate milk.

As to the Vitamins, Bariatric Advantage has a Vitamin that you don't have to chew. It is a capsule and I find them much more agreeable than the chewables. They also have chewable Calcium that comes in a few different flavors. They are pretty good.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
