Hello All,

I finished my last appointment on yesterday and all of my paperwork will be submitted to my insurance company on next week. When I first started my research on the various types of bariatric surgery, I chose the VSG, but during my consultation with my surgeon, he advised me the best surgery for me would be the RNY due to the severity of GERD, so I changed my decision to the RNY. After speaking with my surgery coordinator on yesterday, I found out my insurance will only cover the VSG, therefore I am now having the VSG. I still would like to remain a part of this forum, everyone has been so nice and supportive.

We all need support no matter what surgery. :). I had the RNY but please feel free to reach out to me anytime if you like! I think the journey is the same no matter which surgery you decide to have. Good luck!

I wish you well regardless which surgery you chose. Make sure VSG doesn't make your GERD worse. I wanted the band at first but because of GERD and acid reflux, that was not possible. Make sure you read post from VSG group, see how some of them functioning with GERD after VSG. Be Blessed. By the way, I'm happy with RNY...:)

Hi..I am 3 and a half months out from revision from lapband to RNY. I have not had any dumping issues with foods...even with a little sugar or bite of something sugary. However, I had Cereal yesterday & carnation instant Breakfast drink today. 2 hours later I had some symptoms of dumping from both (yesterday & today). Is it possible to all of the sudden start having the dumping syndrome 3 months out? Had a s bite of birthday cake last week with no problems..but now I started with the issues. They were minor but scary. Unfortunately I have not been able to eat right the past few days. Ordered more Protein Shakes last week but delivery delayed. I live in ice covered Atlanta. .lol. no gym since Monday & snacking. Anyway, any one had late dumping months after surgery? Thanks

Congrats on your revision. Yes, you can dump anytime, I'm 7 months out and just had my first dump last week after eating dry Frosted Flake cereal...I thought I would be fine because previously, I ate other stuff, I was testing my limits...never again, I don't like the dumping.

I dump on sugar and I am 15 months out. I have not tried cake or things like that because I dump if fruit is too sweet. Lol

Ok thanks for the replies. I guess I now know I can not eat sugary cereal and carnation drinks. I guess it is a live and learn situation. I probably had no business eating it but I had to improvise until my Protein mixes were delivered. I will do my best to stick to protein & vegetables. I have lost 38 lbs and still have 45 to go.

Hello everyone! I'm band to bypass. I had my revision 5 months ago. I'm doing good. I'm down 67 pounds and a lot of inches. I haven't weighed myself in over a week and jeans and tops are getting looser so I've probably dropped a few pounds. I stall sometimes. I've experienced dumping so I try not to have more than 5 grams of sugar in any foods. I was planning on trying some Special K fruit and berries but now I don't know. If I do I'll keep you posted. Congrats to all those with your new surgery date!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
