African American RNY Sisters

Recommended Posts

I am still in the process of completing my pre-op requirements. After speaking with my surgeon, the RNY was highly recommended because of severe GERD. I am glad I came across this website and forum, it is my prayer to meet new people, to learn and take something from each person's journey.

I am a slow loser and it's frustrating me to no end. My doc says I should focus on 64oz of Water per day and 60-90g of Protein. Any tips on how to get all my water and protein in daily? I will be 8 weeks on Monday. :-(

Your doctors right. I had a hard time the first few weeks with water and protein and when I increased my water intake the weight started falling off. I bought a 32oz water bottle and fill it up when I got up in the morning. I try to drink 32 oz by 4pm and drink another 32oz by the time I go to bed. I keep the water bottle with me at all times. Try that it may help. It definitely helps me get my water intact in. In regards to protein I would suggest a good Protein Powder and drink away! Lol. I still drink a Protein Shake every morning for Breakfast. I use Isopure Dutch chocolate or nectar chocolate truffle. I mix with skim milk ( they can both be mixed with water) and drink it throughout the day (12oz) and it gives me no less than 50-60 grams of protein so any protein I eat is a bonus! Good luck and happy losing! Feel free to contact me anytime.

Congrats! You look great! It's unreal the sizes and options that are available from losing the weight. A size 6 is great! Was that your goal? I said I wanted to be able to wear a size 8 because it was a single digit. I now own and can wear an 8 it it blows mind! I was wearing a tight 22/24 when I had my surgery!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have 3 appts scheduled for Wednesday 01/22 (EGD, 1 mth nutritionist visit & psych eval questionnaire) I already had the stress test done. I'm nervous & excited at the same time. I received a call from the gastroenterology clinic, my HIDA scan results show my gallbladder is not functioning and it needs to be removed.

Will your Doc remove it at the same time as your RNY?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
