During your stay in hospital, what would you say was standard with regards to your treatment?

Is it standard to get the blood thinning injections during your stay (and some given for your return home)?

Is it standard to get the blood clot prevention boots after the operation? (They are like huge blood pressure cuffs that squeeze your legs).

What were you offered by way of food and drinks? Was it bullion type broth, just Water etc?

Are you given any meds to go home with, and if so what?

Were you given information packs for your future eating, drinking regime?

Were you allowed to wear your panties during the operation? Maybe paper ones?

Does your nail varnish have to come off? Finger, toes or both?

Would be great if you could share your experiences.

No blood thinners, yes, I had the boots for one day,viol lion and juice second day,painkillers but didn't use much. Info pack fr surgeons office, no panties, nail Polish stayed on.

None in hospital, but I self-did Lovenox for 30 days after release

Yes I had them and I LOVED them and would have stole them if I could

Water via ice chips till day of release. Had a LOT of IV Fluid, though

No, was advised what Rx to modify or get through PCP.

Yep

Probably, since they will want a pulse ox on your finger most of the time in the hospital, and nail varnish interferes with the readings.

What were you offered by way of food and drinks? Was it bullion type broth, just Water etc.? Yes, liquids to sip the next day (water & Gatorade, also Soup which I didn’t eat) and a lump of turkey the next evening. My DS nutrit. had told me what to eat and drink (as the hospital wasn’t great with what it offered WLS patients).

Are you given any meds to go home with, and if so what? Yes, Vicodin. Nowadays, I believe they give Percocet.

Were you given information packs for your future eating, drinking regime? A lot of documentation before surgery so I could familiarize myself with it. If you PM me your email, I can send what I have in an email attachment [for gastric bypassers].

Were you allowed to wear your panties during the operation? Maybe paper ones? No, nothing. They want a clear path. No shaving, though.

Does your nail varnish have to come off? Finger, toes or both? No, as they use pulse oximeter, it wasn’t necessary, but I did it anyway just to be sure.

I had an operation before in the UK so just wanted to compare and prepare.

I was given the blood thinning injections every day and was given 2 weeks supply to take home with me along with various pain meds.

The boots I had to wear whilst in hospital which was 3 nights...but in an effort together them off to go to the toilet I ripped one of them. They were great...I loved them.

I bought paper panties but were given these mesh type ones to wear...not nice and very awkward to put on.

I was only allowed sips of Water on the first day but on the second day I was given a bullion style broth. They gave me a cup of tea which I though was odd but although I couldn't finish it, it was nice.

Yes. I was given a blood thinner every 12 hours but when I went home, none.

They put them on me before the surgery and I had to wear them the whole stay. I hated them, they made my legs itch after about 12 hours, but they let me take breaks here and there from them, otherwise, I had to wear them the whole time.

I was on Clear Liquids, so I was given Jello, cranberry juice, tea and bouillon (chicken and beef).

Pepcid 2x a day, an anti-nausea and liquid vicodin.

My doctor provided an entire binder of information plus we were required to do a pre and post op class to go over literally everything.

They gave me disposable panties and a pad because I was menstruating. They had me stop my birth control (oral) a week before and for 2 weeks after. Normally though, I'm told that you aren't allowed to wear panties or jewlery or anything but a hair band for a ponytail.

I wasn't wearing any, but they never said anything about it to me before.

I had my sleeve in Mexico....

Yes to the blood thinners while in the hospital, no to being sent home with any.

Had compression stockings on before, during and overnight while in the hospital. Also advised to wear them on my plane ride home.

Given ice chips and then Water to sip overnight. Popsicles, chicken broth and Water provided as desired over next 3 days.

Yes, sent home with all my Meds... sublingual NSAID for pain (only used 3 days - never needed narcotics), 5 days antibiotics, 2 weeks anti ulcer/anti nausea medication, 2 months PPI.

Was given a lot of preop and postop instructions prior to arrival. Sat down with nut while there to go over all the postop stuff.

Was given paper panties to wear that didn't even come close to fitting so went commando.

I was told no acrylic nails (due yo interference with pulse ox), but nail Polish wasn't mentioned.

Yes, I had them. I only had to wear them the first day because I was not walking at all.. It actually felt like a nice massage .

Were you allowed to wear your panties during the operation? Maybe paper ones? Yes,I was on my period. So I got some cloth elastic ones. They actually weren't that bad.

Does your nail varnish have to come off? Finger, toes or both? Nope. I actually had my toenails pained for new years. So it was still on, so was the clear enamel coat on my finger nails. The nurse actually made a comment that a lot of women have their toes done prior to surgery.

I'm not going to lie, I was in PAIN, but the hospital gave great pain meds (dilaudid and one other). I think having this drain in (until this Wednesday) has really had ALOT to do with my recovery. I'm hoping once it's out I will feel better. Getting anything in (water, Protein, broth), has been extremely difficult. I haven't made goal....not even close.

I'm not saying I wouldn't go back and do it again, cuz I definitely would. I'm just saying from my journey so far has been difficult. I can't wait for it to get better .
