Stall. Getting impatient.. 10 days in a stall

Recommended Posts

Ok.. I read a lot of posts about a stall the first month post op.. Well. Here I am. ..lost 18 pounds post op and have stalled the past 10 days. I have been patient knowing this can happen.. But not 10 days. Mu nut wants me to build up to a 60 gram Protein intake per day ..on good days I can get about 30, Yesterday I did hit 60.. Today I could not keep my lunch down so my protein count today is pretty low so far. . But I know I can add 30 grams before I go to bed (late) tonight. Since the cold weather is here..it is hard for me to drink Water. I can get two 8 oz most days. But my goal is 8 --8 oz. is this is effecting my weight loss. Not enough calories and water. .? Please, I need good advice. Thanks in advance. Ps. I am 30 days post op. Had my surgery on dec 9 .

My stall lasted 13 days and it sucked. My husband hides the scale from me and brings it out once per week - that has saved my sanity. I was driving myself crazy weighing every day and sometimes more than once a day.

More importantly, you need to figure out a way to get in more Protein and Water - those are the two most important things for you now. More important than the scale.< /p>

60 grams of Protein is not a lot when you consider a shake should have 20 grams. Have you tried unflavored and putting in pudding? What's approved on your diet? If you're having trouble with sweet shakes, try the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup and add some chicken (if you're allowed).

For Water - I couldn't stomach plain water after surgery. I started drinking Propel Zero, Vitamin Water Zero and Powerade Zero (all zero calorie drinks and approved by my doc). That saved me from getting dehydrated. You can also try some Decaf green tea or other warm drink - sometimes you can tolerate warm better than cold.

Things will get better for you soon! Hang in there.

If you don't get enough Protein your body will start using muscle for fuel. Reduced muscle will result in a much slower metabolism and it may not impact your weight right now, but it will in the long run. You must treat protein and Water like medicine that you have to take. Not getting enough of either of these two will slow your loss. On my plan Protein Shakes count as liquid, so early on I always got in two Premier Protein shakes a day. Each shake has 30g protein and 11 ounces of liquid.

I was on a stall for 21 days, then the following week lost 10 lbs. I'm STILL unable to get all my protein/water in. Still pushing but just not getting there.

Thanks for your responses. Yes I need to push through the Protein and liquids. 60 grams ode protein is the requirement for me that my NUT gave me as my daily goal. I am 5 '1". Do y'all find it is too little,

Too little Protein? Dunno. My personal goal is 80-100, with no less than 60. Given that you're still having trouble working it in, start with the baby steps and make sure you get there. But 60 should be fine for now to maintain your muscle. Liquids are so important to stave off dehydration.

Keep working at it. You got this.

I am sooo incredibly happy that I found this thread! I've been stalled for about 10 days and I know it's Water and Protein, but I thought I was doing something majorly wrong.

I've got my Protein up, and today I finally drank all the Water that I needed.

How long does it take to get yourself out of the slump and back to dropping weight, once you get your protein and water met?

Thanks.

You could experience many stalls during the journey - long and short. You just need to work on the things you can control: Your Water intake

Your Protein intake

Exercise

Your Protein is important so you don't lose lean muscle mass. Your lean muscle mass is what burns calories - so many folks that have WLS lose this. My last doc's appt showed I had lost some lean muscle mass and she doesn't want me to lose more. I have lost 5% of my body fat at 6 weeks. In order to not lose the LMM, you need to eat protein and once cleared, exercise and start lifting light weights (I'm not suggesting turning into a weight lifter - light weights with 20-25 reps per set). Walking and cardio are good for burning off the fat. You should do both once cleared.

I don't know if it's going to be a long-term thing or not, but right now I log everything that I put in my mouth, including Water. I have to or I'll snag a bite of something here and there and that grazing is what got me to 256 pounds.

I set exercise goals for the month and track to that goal. There's a thread on this site January Fitness Challenge - you put in your goal, then update as you want to on that thread.

And finally, I again suggest hiding the scale. Bring it out once a week or so - some will suggest weighing every month, some only weigh at the doc appointments. I read where someone even put their scale in the car trunk and brought it out once per week. My husband hides our scale and brings it out on Thursday, my weigh-in day.

So relieved to read all these posts! I had my sleeve done on Dec 11... by Christmas I was down 30lbs and stalled till today... lost 5 more lbs ... I am not getting in all my Protein or Water, but I am going to try Premier Protein shakes, I have read on many other posts that this is the easiest way to get in the Protein.< /p>

I talked to my dr today he said don't weigh yourself every day... only once a week, as hard as it is, he said it is counter productive and will have a negative effect on you.

Hang in there, we will get there! :)

Last night I went to my first support group meeting and they said that when they stopped weighing themselves at home, they stopped plateauing. I guess something about weighing yourself, especially daily, gets us in the wrong mind set and several women said they were stuck for months, doing everything right, really upset, then the doc said not to weigh at home and they stopped and haven't had a problem since.

Just thought I'd share that. I stopped weighing myself, which is hard, but I already feel slightly liberated!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
