Feeling shakey in Alabama

Recommended Posts

:( I am on day 4 of the liquid diet. Almost had a melt down last night. My surgery is the 14th and I AM VERY NERVOUS! My parents nor my children support me in having the sleeve. My husband told me last night that he was concerned about my health. I could not get a straight answer out of him to if he wanted me to go through with the surgery or not. I almost lost it and was about to cancel the surgery. I have battled my weight for almost 20 years. I have been on a roller coaster with it and have some huge successes but I WAS YOUNGER and HEALTHIER. I have had three doctors tell me that they believe this is the right path to help me become healthier and avoid some of the awful health issues that my parents suffer from. UURRRGGGGGGGG!!! Help! I just want someone to really convince me that this is right for me. To tell me that it is all worth it. I have worked so hard for 8 months to get to this point and I don't understand why I feel this way. Did anyone else have doubts right before their surgery?

Sounds like your husband is simply concerned about you and a little afraid of losing you and would rather have you as you are than not at all. But you've got to do this for you. Some might say it's selfish but I say it's selfish if you're not 100% happy with yourself because you're not giving anyone your best. What does your gut instincts say? I have surgery on Friday (01/10/14) in Tijuana and although I'm a little apprehensive, I'm Prayed up.

Do it! You will regret it more if you don't do it. Your husband will be thrilled at how happy you will be in the following weeks and the results that you will see. I wish I had done it 10 years ago.

It is hard to share this struggle and decision with people and harder still to face opposition. For me, also battling this weight issue for most of my adult life, I've come to realize that the odds are stacked against me without this tool. The success rate of diets and will power alone result in less than 20% of people ever losing and keeping off the weight whereas 5 year follow ups on morbidly obese bariatric patients reveal as high as 93% have lost weight and kept it off. (National Inst of Health).

I am still pre-op and of course have doubts here and there, but I go back to take an honest look at my journey, where I want to be and the best way to get there. I know my weight is holding me back from living my life fully and realizing my potential. I try to keep that in mind.

Hang in there, you are so close. Keep in mind, you are 4 days into the liquid diet, so this may be having an affect on your moods and emotions.

Best of luck!!

What I can tell you is that every single one of us have doubts before surgery. It would be weird if you didn't. And the lack of support often comes from concern and being uninformed. The support often comes later, once the fear goes away and success starts to settle in. But not always. Continue to be active here, it's not the same as getting what you need from your family but the support here is priceless. As for selfish? I think we've all been there too, but as a daughter, mom, wife and friend that has gone through this surgery I can tell you I was much more selfish at 110lbs overweight when I couldn't participate in life!

Do you know why they put side blinders on horses? It is so the horses don't get distracted or spooked when crossing a bridge. You have already started your journey, so just look straight ahead and keep going forward. Don't pay any attention to the verbal commotion going on around you.

It is time to take care of yourself and be proactive about your health. Ultimately, it is your body, your health issues, and your mental anguish. Do what you have to do to get yourself healthy and happy. We will see you soon on the other side. Really, the anxiety is worse than the surgery. I am two weeks post-op and don't regret it at all.

Thank you ALL for the support! My husband has always said that he loves me no matter what size I am and I seem to have been them ALL! It is just difficult to hear my mother and my children actually say "I do not support your decision to do this". Those words hurt and cause doubt. Yesterday was bad! The emotions were awful and I avoided speaking with my mother because I knew I would cry. Today is better. Not nearly as hungry and not feeling as blue. I do feel better reading all that y'all have written. This support is great!! I was reading where someone had posted "Today is the last day of me being the heaviest I will ever be". I had a wow moment there because I have passed that day. I have already lost 23lbs so what I am doing is right! Thank you again and please continue to share your journey with me. Seven days left!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
