I'm 3 weeks post op and had been feeling great. I'm on soft foods and tolerating well, trying to get liquids in and working on my Protein. It's a struggle because I just can't stomach the Protein Shakes right now. I recently have started feeling light headed and a little dizzy. It's an odd feeling, hard to describe. My blood pressure is normal. I just don't feel good. Anyone else experienced this? Planning to call doctor tomorrow.

Welcome to BariatricPal,

It sounds to me like you might be suffering from dehydration. It is easy to do at the early stages. Make sure you get your fluids in. Try a different Protein shake or add sugar flavor syrups to them to help. It's hard but so important. I drank Premier ready to drink shakes because they didn't have a funky Protein after taste.

Good luck.

I experienced this quite a bit but less so now (I'm 4.5 months out). I still can't pinpoint why it does it but I do try to drink more Water and get my Protein on those days. I hate the feeling!!

I'm about 24 days out and lightheaded/warm headed feelings have been my greatest complaint since day 6 ... Was hospitalized for dehydration on day 11 but still struggling with those symptoms and constant fatigue and overall weakness --- I think my challenge with getting in fluids is due to my hernia repair pain which carafate Rx has helped with a bit but still find challenging

I've tried thinned oatmeal and cream of wheat but my hernia hated it -- felt like rocks in my chest -- I'm scared to try anything like that again ... Baby food blended and FAGE Greek yogurt blended with the RTD shakes are ok but still challenging so I don't drink those all the time -- I do feel like I need more nutrients and protein along with Water of course --- it's a full time commitment

I've been battling Constipation recently and found that colace capsules plus magnesium citrate have helped

Sip sip sip all day so you don't end up in ER

My blood pressure, oxygen and temperature were normal in ER but blood sugar was low - I have no co morbidities

Hope you feel better soon!

I'd bet you're fine. A lot of us have that post op..especially as our bodies adjust at all the changes.

Once you can have solids, the nutrients will stick around longer inside us. But the liquids only part hits a lot of us like this.

Think of it...when your on all liquids..even shakes..its still liquid and runs right threw us. Were not getting much but its a short stage and our bodies can with stand that for weeks on end if forced too.

Relax honey..the more you stress freak n worry, the less you'll be able to ingest.

:)

Are you hypoglecmic or diabetic? You may need a bit if sugar to help these symptom go away.

If you haven't already been cleared to take your Vitamin, it may be all you need. I was cleared on my 4 wk post-up check up.

I'm 6 wks out now and have found I get really light headed and dizzy on and off but more so on days before and during my TOM.

I also wake up with headaches on days I didn't get in all my 64oz of fluids. So I drink g2 Gatorade and helps.

I have been feeling super tired and fatigued I come straight home from work exhausted and must take a nap, some days I nap during lunch too. I'm just so tired and I get all my small meals and Protein and fluids, but have been lacking on my Vitamins since I returned to work 2 wks ago, not even coffee helps give me a boost.

So I stopped at the Vitamin Shoppe and bought all liquids Vitamins, not cheap, some were on sale and totaled $90 but I think it's what I need and started to try taking them today. Challenge us to take them with food in separate times.

I bought all liquids of

--Multivitamin

--Iron

--Calcium w/vitamin D3

--Vitamin D3 drops ( I was diagnosed low Vitamin D before and after surgery)

--Omega w/vitamin D3

--Biotin dissolvable 5000mlg cherry, taste good like grape. ( today I noticed lots of hair falling out. So I took 2 tablets total 10,00mlg, I'm so scared of loosing my hair)

I've never been hypoglycemic, and not diabetic. I am taking a Vitamin, but they make me feel so full. I may try the liquid also. I felt so good until just a few days ago, that's when the dizziness started and the tiredness. I'm really trying to push my liquids and the Protein. I've gotten some great tips here that I'm going to try. I do think it will be easier to get my protein when I can have solids and some meats. I'm looking forward to that.

This still happens to me at 5 months out. Can't figure it but it happens if I'm stressed, dehydrated, sleep deprived, calorie low. I'm guessing it signals some kind of deficiency. I've spent my whole life struggling with too much of everything. Not enough is not a feeling I'm used to.

I felt like that until about 8-9 weeks when I finally was able to get enough Water. I still struggle with staying hydrated enough alot though. But... I just went to a local tea bar (Starbucks for tea) and bought some super delicious herbal teas (my favorite is Orange ginger mint- yum!) And maybe it's the ginger but omg I feel so much better and I can easily drink a lot of it

Hi Seela, I hope you feel better too!!

My son used to work for a family Tea business.

He just left to San Diego right now to get certified as a Tea Master. He's the one that made me peppermint tea leaves when I got home from hospital to relieve my horrible gas pains and it was and still is my miracle make my tummy feel good tea and reliefs gas too.

If anyone would like advise on which teas to make and drink send me a private message. He's will be selling organic teas soon. He makes all his teas from loose leaves hot and cool refreshing ones.

And ginger teas are delishes and healthy for us.

I have been experience blurry vision. I'm assuming it's related to not enough Vitamins but will let y'all know how feeling by Friday since I was able to drink them all today.

I was having dizzy spells and blotchy vision. It was low blood sugar for me. I would drink 1/2 cup of apple juice or orange juice and it cleared right up.

Hi I'm new. My surgery is Jan 15. I'm worried about sleeve swelling ? What does that entail? We you able to swallow liquids ?

Mine was swollen shut post op. I coildnt keep a single thing down until they did my leak test and saw it was swollen closed in 2 places.

I got a couole shots in the tummy, extra meds and then just started sipping.

Now, at 11 weeks post I have somw difficulties eating. Soft things like cottage cheese or yogurts go down ok. meats do not. I can only eat 1 oz of any given meat.

But im happy with it. Its not a big deal. Im told this will change.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
