Hello and thanks for the support!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I just wanted to say that I am new to the forum. This is my first post :clap2: so bear with me.....I have been reading everyone's comments for about a week now and am just in the very beginning part of pre-op 'homework'. I am learning a lot and you guys have really helped with some of my questions. My first meeting with the doctor is on April 12th. In the meantime I am trying to get as much of the insurance bologna out of the way as possible. I think I am in pretty good shape so far. I am hoping to have the surgery by July or August....don't know if that will happen yet, but that is my goal. I am about 5'8 almost 5'9 and currently weigh 281 lbs. I have always been overweight and my weight yo yo's terribly. I think this surgery is what I need to do. I live in PA and my doctor's name is Dr. Ali. He is with the Hamot Bariatric Unit in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is a very well known doctor in our area.

Anyway, I just couldn't sit back and suck up everyone's comments anymore without making my presence known :hippie:

I look forward to getting to know some more of you and becoming a part of a support group to get through this!

Welcome!

I did the same thing as you.. I read a lot of the posting on this site before I got the nerve up to say anything.. This is a wonderful site! You will find a lot of helping info and helping folks to chat with. I cant wait to get home from work to sign on and see what's going on.

Good Luck with your insurance I hope that it works out and you are able to get banded as soon as you can!

Happy Posting!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
