How long do you have to be on liquids? My surgeon had a very short (can't remember for sure but think it was like 3 or 4 days) liquid stage. Then the next 5 or so days it was runny solids, runny potatoes, Soup, etc..

I didn't make it all the way through.....felt the same way you do! I broke down one night and ate about 5 micro-mini ravioli. I chewed really good, or shall I say mushed it up! Was perfect, didn't take much to hit the spot, didn't hurt anything and let me get back on track the next morning.

This worked for me, not saying you should or shouldn't, just what I did that helped. Good Luck....the liquids won't last forever!

I am with Jack...I was on complete fluids...anything you can see through for 2 weeks. Then "full fluids" for 2 weeks. This included scrambled eggs. Jello and things like that. I didn't have the urge to chew. I enjoyed the whole process and thought wow I am really going to do this thing. I say...if you want to chew....run, lift weights, exercise. Take your mind off the urge to consume calories. Its boredom not hunger. If you know the dynamics of the band you will realize that the signal of hunger is no longer sent to your brain due to the pressure on the outer part of your stomach. It tells the hypothalemus (sp) that you are always already full. Mind over matter sometimes I think....keep up the good fight.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
