Happy (early) New Year - Waiting for approval - so nervous!

Recommended Posts

I had my final appointment in the approval process on Friday (psych eval). I had been very anxious about it and had "studied" as much as possible to try and give the answers that I thought would get me approved but when I got in the room I just threw all that out the window and was totally honest. Sometimes I thought maybe too honest, but I figured this is a psychiatrist - she will know when I'm BSing. Once it was over I was told that it could take 1-2 weeks to get the report. Anyway the girls at the office really like me and my mom (we're a riot...so we're told). When I expressed that waiting was really getting to me, they got the therapist (who is outsourced) to give her report right away! My labs were missing so I went and had them re-drawn and They submitted to insurance before I even left the office!!! I am so excited, but nervous at the same time. I am going to start the pre op diet on Monday; I don't have a sleeve date yet but I want to be able to take the first available date so I'm being proactive. I will keep you guys updated, the boards have been such a huge resource during the time leading up to this moment. I just want to thank all of you for your contributions. Happy New Year!

Good luck. The waiting game can seem to take forever, but the wait is worth it!

Good luck to you! I am very glad you decided to just be honest with the psychiatrist...as their only job is to make sure you are prepared and ready. If they would have found out you weren't, you could have worked on things to make this process easier. I have seen people who have "lied" to the therapist and have been passed, now they are dealing with a lot of issues that should have been taken care of before having the surgery. I am happy for you that you are this far in the process, hopefully you get an approval quickly!!

Well, I called my insurance today (IBX Personal Choice) and it's official...I'm having the VSG performed on 1/23. I think, lol. She said that she sees the approval for an inpatient procedure on 1/23 and 1/24. I'm so excited, but nervous at the same time. I've never been in the hospital at all...not even to the ER. I consider that a blessing, and the fact that even this time I'm voluntarily doing this...it's still a little unnerving.

Actual surgery date is 1/30. One week later than I was expecting but that's ok. Very excited at this point!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
