Just not feeling good!

Recommended Posts

Hi I am about 19 days out and am on puréed foods. I just feel like I should feel better than I do. I still get nausea but I have IBS and that is one of the symptoms I use to get. I have tried canned chicken with low fat mayo- didn't feel good after. I have tried refried Beans, green salsa-no good, cottage cheese-real bad, added chicken breast to refried beans and puréed no good. Getting frustrated!! Still drink Protein Shake every morning cause I know I need protein! Any suggestions? I am going to call NUT on Mon.

I think you're maybe rushing to eat 'normal' food too quickly. I was sleeved on 09/18 and still have problems with dense Proteins like chicken. Cottage cheese was also a no-no. bread, vegetables and fruit, I still have problems with. I have always been able to eat mashed potatoes with some grated cheese and that is my standby meal. Am fine with salmon and tuna as well.

It all takes time and you can't rush things.

On the plus side I wouldn't change what I've done, it's been the best thing ever. Am 42 pounds down, I feel and look so much better. Down from 7 HBP pills to 1, no lymphoedema in my legs and have come down 4 dress sizes.

Give your body time to recover, stay positive and you'll be fine. Best of luck.

I have to agree with the poster above me. I wasn't cleared to do soft solids until week 4. Even then most things didn't sit well.

I'm now 10 weeks and things still don't sit well no matter how well I chew them.

Stick to your program guidelines...you'll feel better if you do.

Hi hang in there ,,its still so fresh for you.. It will get better I promise you. have you tried eggs or egg whites with some cheese,, make some ricotta cheese with sauce and mozzarella (noodle less lasagna) in the microwave ..some greek yogurt with honey drizzle ( not as sweet as fruit flavored).. its gonna be a bit of getting use to finding things that dont bother you for now... but later this wont be a problem... :P

Mashed potatoes? Applesauce? Blended Soups? pudding? Yogurt? And you can add unflavored Protein Powder to all of them. Are you taking a PPI or anti acids? They can really help with nausea. Getting in Vitamins? Especially B12....which helps with IBS regardless.

I agree I think you are pushing too much too soon. I was liquid for the first month. Only Soup, yogurt , cottage cheese, Protein Shakes, Jello etc. weeks 5-8 I was on mushies. Creamy chicken salad egg salad scrambled eggs refried Beans etc. I think you should take a few steps back and not eat too advanced. When I finally got to true solids for the first few weeks I was like you describe but not to your extent. Tolerable an manageable.

Are you getting indigestion? Burping? You might need to add a protonic( such as nexium) to your routine. I did and I felt way better after taking one each morning. It took me a good month before I felt "hungry" at all. I could go all day without eating anything. Before surgery, I would wake up starving. Not anymore.

I think that is the problem. I was on Nexium before surgery and I am only on Prilosec now. I think the Nexium is stronger but I brought it up to surgeon and he didn't think there was a problem.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
