Non-plus size stores...where did you go first?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I did not mean to offend with my "fat lady" store comment. That's what my sister and I have always called them (we've always been the fat ladies).

Today I tried Kohl's (which looked like Christmas kicked its butt!), Sears, JCP, and DressBarn (which I like because it's got 2 sides, plus and skinny). I learned that 1X is not the same as XL. But I can slip into a 16w, which is pretty good since I started in a 26. I still have a ways to go until I can shop in a regular store. However, I did buy some XL pajama pants at Sear's. I can't wait til I can fit into Land's End there.

I hesitated and almost went in to Soma intimates. A little more weight loss and then I'll treat myself to some nicer bras. At DressBarn I tried on a body shaper. Weird. Made my B tummy into a D shape, and made the girls perkier, but it felt a little odd, so I didn't buy it.

I shop at Dress Barn too. Just recently found out the same thing.... 1X and XL are not the same. I walked out with a XL, and I was soooo proud of myself for fitting in just an EXTRA LARGE..... EXTRA LARGE seemed TINY after wearing a 3X for the past decade or two!!!!

Totally get what you gals are writing about. I posted on the NSV thread last night that I went shopping with my girlfriend and got into size 12 slacks and was trying on XL tops. They were too big and my friend knew it. she kept bringing me. medium and smalls... which fit. I started out a year ago at size 26 pants and 4X tops. Oh and I shop at Walmart and Penney's a lot because I don't stay in the same sizes for long.

It's the most amazing feeling in the world to be able to go to reg dept stores i.e Macys, L&T and not have to tell my friends to hang on while I check the plus size section. I'm down to a large from a 2x and loosing more weight so I'm pretty exited!

Do you have Mango and Zara where you live? They sell very stylish clothing and not too expensive.

I love Ann Taylor, too (as a previous poster mentioned). Also like White House Black Market--you can pick up their stuff cheaply at an Outlet Mall.

At first I did Walmart because I was in the losing stage so I got cheap stuff because I knew I wouldn't be in them long. Now that I'm below goal, I shop at Sears, JCPenny, Macy's, or Dillard's. Wherever there's a sale. Good luck and continued success.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
