Hello everyone

Just wanted to say hi to everyone on here. I'm getting banded on January 7th and I'm excited and nervous about it. I was wondering why some of you guys picked the band. I decided on it because in your 20's I feel like I can lose the weight and the skin can snap back too.

Hey how's it going? I picked the band because the sleeve and the bypass are just way to drastic. And your weight comes off too quickly, I want be able to tone some of this skin while my weight is coming off slowly. Buy for me at being 29 and weighing at my heaviest of 330 I don't think my skin will snap back. I'm going to have to deal with excess skin.

Hi there, congratulations on your surgery date! I knew I wanted the band -- other weight loss surgeries were too drastic for me. I wanted to keep my stomach and have some flexibility -- love the adjustability of the band even though it can mean a lot of tweaking, visits back to surgeon, etc. This gives me accountability, a partner in the process. I am just six weeks out. I've lost one quarter of my goal (need to shed 100 pounds) but that isn't even the great thing -- I am no longer obsessed with food. I'm not thinking about it the same way, I'm not finishing food -- no more clean plate club. Not going back for more. I am out of food jail.

I'm now in my 60's...although I will be 18 till I die.....

I chose the Lap Band because it it is easily reversible....I do not plan to have it forever...as a matter of fact I plan on starting this discussion next visit to my Dr....I have been at my body's optimal weight and body fat% for 2 years now....been on day to day living sine then.

As far as skin snapping back, I suppose age does has a lot to do with it...although I have very little excess skin, there are other factors that influence muscle and skin tone also that even young people need to adhere to........

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Just a warning...there will be negative nellies but do not let them get you down. I am one to say that the band is a good choice for some people. (I have been banded 9 months now). I have had both the good and bad with my band, but when it was bad...it was because I did something to it. I was first going to have the RNY. I changed my mind because my mom had the RNY and I was aware that they do not absorb nutrients as well as those with lab band. I know I want to have children in the near future and I wanted to be able to give them every drop of nutrients I could. I also wanted to be able to let my band out if I needed to eat more in order for my child to have what it needed. Say while breast feeding. So that is why I decided to go with lap band. Again good luck and feel free to check out my blog wshfullyshrnkng.tumblr.com I recently started blogging again and hopefully it will be helpful to you. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
