Getting Nervous, even had second thoughts

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! Found this blog in hopes to calm my nerves! Surgery set for 12/19/2013 , 2 more days! On my 10 pre-op diet and have had urges to kill for something good to bite into! How am I going to make it after surgery! Though I have lost 5 # on this liquid diet which is incentive for sure. Just wondering how much of a life change this will be! I love my food, just hate what it has done to me, made me FAT! Will I ever be able to go out to dinner with my ever so slim and trim husband of 36 years again? Will I ever be able to eat real food again?

I know that I have to lose the weight, it has caused me diabetes , high high cholesterol , bad knees, bad feet ( plantar fasciitis ) ! But the idea of something being inside me the rest of my life is spooky! I am 59 years old know, what will it be like when I am 80? Okay okay, I admit I am just soooooo nervous! I hate surgery, well really just being put under is the worst!

I just have to keep telling my self it is not a choice but a necessity if I want to live to see my grandkids grow!

LOL, everything you are describing sounds like most of the people I've seen come here. You will be able to eat out again, just not as much and there will be certain foods you may have to abandon. It is the best decision I've ever made. I'm most of the way there, but still have to work at it. You'll do great.

I struggled with all that leading up to my surgery in September. I've had absolutely no regrets. I've had a few days of "what have I done to myself," but they are short-lived and very infrequent. There is a certain freedom knowing that food no longer rules my life. I don't crave it. I don't miss it....well, I miss Christmas sugar Cookies, but by next Christmas, I should be able to eat them again. I was terrified of trying to go out to eat. I've found that each restaurant I've gone to understands I need modifications and they don't need the details why. My favorite neighborhood restaurant knows about my surgery and they like the challenge of helping me stay on plan...it means money in their pocket :) I came off my blood pressure meds about a month after surgery. I sleep better. I move better. I smile more often. Best decision I've ever made.

You CAN do it! We have been there, and believe me, I almost backed out several times. I was just like you, I wanted to live and enjoy my children and grandchildren, travel, do everything that my weight might stop! Best wishes, we are here for you, visit often!! Karen..aka..kll724

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
