Your tips for success

Recommended Posts

Was wondering what everyone's tips for success are? What have you found that has helped you lose weight?

My two tips are:

1.) nighttime cup of tea - as a former nighttime binge eater I now have no interest in eating after dinner. If i do get hungry I have a cup of chai tea fresh from my kureig and go to bed not too long after!

2.) Chili!!! I have found that when I eat homemade bean or bean and ground beef chili for dinner that I lose like 1-2 pounds per day! It's amazing!

I make a lot of homemade vegetable Soups. Squash all kinds, turnips, carrots, celery, canned tomatoes, corn, green Beans, black beans, a

packet of taco seasoning. It is so good.

Always having healthy Snacks available, and keeping them visible always helps me when I find myself mindlessly searching for something to snack on. Pre measuring serving sizes for my snack foods is also a huge help to me (such as almonds).

I also record every single thing that goes into my mouth, and I'm very honest about it. I need the accountability.

eating a Breakfast. never cared for Breakfast before but i eat one everyday now.

adding a bit of fat to my dinner. makes me feel more satisfied so i dont eat after dinner. the fat is generally olive oil on my salad.

drink lots of crystal lite and Water. never without it by my side.

Stick with my lapband directives from my surgeon and nutritionist. For me that means high Protein followed by veg, fruit, dairy. Stay away from anything that brings on unhealthy eating which, for me, includes sweets and carbs. Staying away from white carbs is easy due to my band (I don't eat bread, Pasta, rice, couscous, potatoes, etc). And if I keep my Protein high, staying away from the chocolate and sweets is easier (I wouldn't say it's "easy" but it is "easier") because I don't crave them when taking in high protein.

I am going on 9 years post op...my advice is to start and KEEP active with the lap band...it will KEEP the weight off even when your band is not working optimal...there will be times in your journey where you may not have optimal restriction and having that backup plan of working out and exercising will help keep the weight off long term.

Have a plan of walking daily, of at least 30 minutes, incorporate it in your schedule like brushing your teeth...it will keep your slim.

I'm just getting myself figured out now at six weeks banded -- early days but here's what's working for me:

When I eat I sit and listen to my body. I enjoy my food and try to stay present. I ask myself if I'm full and if I get a yes I stop eating, leaving food in my little bowl. I don't finish or take a last bite.

I exercise even if I think I don't want to, and I try to convince myself I do want to -- and afterwards I'm really glad.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
