Banded 3days ago and vomited

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I was banded 3 days ago and I have been really dizzy and nauseous. I told the surgeon this as I think it's the anesthetic that does it to me.

I am worried I could have done damage?

How do I know if my port is still in position and hasn't moved?

I have been lifting my 4mnth old baby - who the surgeon said would be ok to lift- and am now doubting things.

Any body in a similar position??

You are probably okay. Take it easy! Follow your surgeon's plan, sip,sip sip your liquids. If you are still nauseous this AM call and see if they can give you something for it. Best wishes, Karen...aka..kll724

Your body changed lots since the band was installed. Ask the doctor if you received a pre-fill during surgery.

You should definitely give your doctor a call and let them know that you were vomiting. Anesthesia often does that after surgery, and once it's out of your system you should be OK. Many times the surgeon will prescribe anti- nausea drugs to prevent this from happening.

You want to give your band time to seat it self around your stomach. The sutures are still fresh and have not healed internally. When you vomit you cause the stomach to come up through the stoma that the band creates and this is what can cause the slip since the band hasn't fixed itself into place yet. This happens when you are healed internally and it takes a bit longer then your outside wounds do.

Your port should not be the issue when from vomiting but you could pull it out of place by lifting things that are too heavy. A 4 month old should not weigh more then 15-20 pounds so you should be OK there. If you are lifting the baby and the diaper bag or the laundry stop doing that! :) I know it's easier to say then do but you have to take some time to care for yourself. You have just had another major surgery and your body needs time to heal and lots of TLC to recover from all it has been through over the last few months.

I wish you all the best, and please keep in close contact with your doctor if you are feeling any pulling in the port or still nauseated.

Hi there, hoping you're feeling better today and that your body has shrugged off the anesthesia, etc. Are you taking narcotic medication? I can't tolerate that personally but then the Tylenol and Ibuprofen liquids did not sit well on my empty stomach either. Not sure what your post op diet is. I was on full liquids and found potato leek Soup very soothing. Also ginger is great for an upset stomach. Have fun with your beautiful baby. What a great decision to be healthy for when you start chasing him/her around and all the fun times you have ahead of you. Best wishes!

Thanks everyone:)

I called the surgeons office yesterday and asked if there was anything I could take for the nausea. The admin said I would only be able to hear back from him today about noon.

I feel a lot better then I did yesterday....

But now I am paranoid that I have done internal damage. I Only vomited once. And not again. It was soooo painful. But am worried I have made the band slip. Am I just being paranoid? How do I know if I have done any damage.

Did any of you feel hungry in your first week?? I feel hungry. Does this mean the band has slipped?

Sorryyyyyy I just want to feel reassured. The surgeons office said I wouldn't have done anything from once off but if any of you who have been through it could reassure me that would be great.

Hope you all are going well too. Xxx

Didn't your surgeon give you a script for anti nausea med? If you are still feeling sick, perhaps he can prescribe one? I have a melt on your tongue one that works a treat. I didn't need it for post op... I didn't get sick during my recovery but when my gallbladder acts up and I feel sick, this med knocks it right out. Good stuff.

You shouldn't have to be struggling with nausea during your recovery, give your doc a call and see what he can do for you. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
