Hi all - am almost 3 weeks post op. Dropped close to 20 pounds the first two weeks and I have only lost about 3 pounds in the last almost week!!! I know my doctor said it was inevitable - and he said I probably wouldn't lose much in the next couple weeks but it almost has me second guessing why I did this. I feel fantastic and I know I won't drop 100 pounds overnight but in my head I keep thinking that I lost more weight than this ridiculous amount by just eating healthy!!! I'm just about at my breaking point with frustration. I know it is normal but what gives? I'm ready to start losing again.

How can you be complaining about that kind of weight loss in such a short time...You didnt gain all your weight over night and you wont lose it overnight either. Relax and heal from surgery and forget about weight loss for a little bit.

Hi, that's not really a stall. It's a slowdown. :D

It seems hard but here is the article that we continually are referred to here by forum vet Butterthebean:

Hi Lindsj83,

I'm 4 weeks out and down 26 lbs. I'm trying not to crazy with the scale. Someone told me to remember to drink Water, Water, water. It flushes out the fat. I've noticed my skin reallllllly dry, and then I realized I'm only drinking about 40 oz. of water, which really isn't good. So, first thing in the morning, I make a cup of hot tea and pour water into a 16 oz. (measuring cup). I drink both while getting my Vitamins down (very slowly) and my thyroid meds.

Then about an hour later, I'm ready for Breakfast, which I'm doing a shake. I have always been on the go and have done shakes, so I'm continuing my routine. I noticed, that once I started adding food, my lbs. on the scale stopped or dropped from 2 lbs. to 1/2 Lb!!! Bu, in my head I'm reasoning that the scale is at least going down and not up. It's really difficult, because we all want the quick fix. Feel free to email me if you need someone to talk to. I know I can use someone at times too. ssifonte@hotmail.com

You can all beat me about the head and shoulders if I do this when I get sleeved, but I get tickled every time I read a post liek this. There must be 10,000 of them online: "I've just had WLS, and I'm not to goal yet."

Arithmetic is your friend:

1. If you want to lose 100 pounds, you'll be doing great to lose it in a year.

2. You've already lost 80 pounds in 2 weeks. That leaves 11-1/2 months to lose 80 pounds.

3. 80 pounds divided by 11-1/2 = 7 pounds a month.

4. So 7 pounds a month is what you're now aiming for. You'll lose faster than that early on and slower than that toward the end.

You'll get there.

You're lucky. You're already on your way. :)

Ann

BaHuber - I don't think complaining is hardly what I was doing. I stated that I know things like this are normal and was just venting my frustrations. Please don't attack me. I don't appreciate it.

I hear you, LindsJ83. It must be tough to go from 20 pounds in 2 weeks to a slower pace. Watching the scale slide down that fast must feel euphoric.

MyChoice - Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate them. I was simply looking for someone to understand where I was coming from.

VSGAnn - thank you for the math. I'm not wondering why I'm not at goal. It took me 30 years to develop poor eating habits and I am well aware that I may not be through with all of them just because of surgery. Unfortunately, I don't read posts like this floating around on the internet and so I decided to ask if anyone else is experiencing this. I guess it's nice to know I'm not alone?

Looks like I opened a can of worms. Going forward, I understand this isn't a race and it has taken me years to get here. It also took me years to make the decision to have surgery. I'm simply looking for people that I can connect with on this topic and to not be told I'm complaining. Thanks!

Yes VSGAnn - I guess that is where my frustration is stemming from. It is very hard to not compare yourself to the weight that other people have lost. I suppose in my mind before surgery I thought it would be more because I was heavier. Does that make sense? LOL - anyhow, it is a lot in 3 weeks. I just don't know if others have experienced a slowdown or stall around this point and more so, what they did to break it!

Im stalled at 193- and I wonder if I will stay here forever sometimes. I think its totally normal to get frustrated when the weight slows and stalls- REGARDLESS of how much we may know that it will happen.

Back to drinking more Water.....

Hugs!! :)

A quick question -- do you both know about the three-week stall?

I only ask because many people who've had surgery have never heard of it.

If not, read this:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
