How do I add protein powder?

Recommended Posts

I just tried to add a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder to a 1/2 cup of heated beef broth and it came out lumpy and disgusting. I kept adding more Water to smooth it out and reheated it but it tasted really gross.

How do you add Protein powder to your meals so it doesn't taste lumpy, grainy and gross? It was seriously making me gag.

Protein powder will clump if it gets too hot. I believe the temperature to stay below is 120 or 140. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury should have the correct temperature listed on their website.

FYI - whey protein powders can not be mixed in hot liquids (over 140˚ I think) - it gets weird and lumpy as you can see.

If you want to mix a protein powder into hot foods, try using unflavored pea protein (NOW makes a very good non-GMO one, 28g protein per scoop). I make my broths with it - it can be boiled so you can enjoy a nice warm cup of Soup or broth. I mix it into my chili or any other dishes I can for the fam, and they never even notice they are getting a protein boost :)

To mix the Protein powder you already have with broth, reserve a bit of the cool or room temp broth (4T.- 1/4c.) before heating the rest you're going to eat. Mix your protein powder into the cool broth, whisking with a small whisk or fork until the protein powder is moist and paste-like and not clumpy. Warm the remaining broth, but no more than 140 degrees. Combine the protein powder paste and warm broth, whisking while combining. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the tips. The Protein powder I am using is vegan by harmonized brand.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
