6 days post op feeling blue

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am new to this site and am finding everything so very helpful. I am 6 days post op And generally feeling pretty good. Been on Clear Liquids and have been very tired but generally well. No vomiting, some nausea. The main trouble I'm having is the mental part. :( I know I'm really not "hungry" but I am HUNGRY and it's driving me bonkers. My anxiety is haywire and I just want to eat something of substance and feel satisfied and I'm feeling depressed and like I made a big mistake. I know I didn't and it's only 6 days out but how did any of you really combat any of these types of feelings? This doesn't last forever right? I won't feel deprived always?

Thanks for your help and guidance all! <3

-- Mehgan (sleeved on 12/4)

I was also sleeved on 12/4. Congrats on your new journey!! With that being said you are headed into unknown territory and it can be scary but you've prepared yourself for this by taking your nutrition classes and going thru all the pre-op prep. Speak to your nutritionist if you need to. Hang in there it will get better. I can't wait to see your posts 6 months from now.

Thank you both for your kind words! This is such a big journey with so many ups and downs and as much as I prepared, I still feel blind sided by the feelings and urges. I will keep my head up though! L-in-NJ congrats on your new journey! :) I hope you're feeling well! Our one week tomorrow!

Hello everyone my name is JD and I am 6 days out of surgery. had some complications in surgery due to a reaction to the blood thinners so I had to go back in for an additional 4 hours. Im feeling much better and haven't had a lot of nausea issues yet. Im a 28 year old male, father of 1 and 1 on the way, and 3 great stepchildren. Ive always considered myself a tough guy (Don't cry often) but here in the last few days I have been ridiculously emotional is this normal? I guess I am still in the what the heck did I do faze, but I have been working for this for a long while. Any words of wisdom for a newbie, I admit it im scared.

It will get better once you can chew your food. And actually the mental is the hardest part for me...but I'm working on it. I'm rarely truly hungry...I might want something but not really hungry just want. Give yourself time, it gets better. I promise:) I'm a lil over 3 months out and it took me a couple weeks to really feel good but it is well worth it.

Thank you so much Redbean! That makes me feel much more relieved and hopeful. I definitely think the chewing part will help a ton. Drinking everything doesn't feel satisfying at all! Congrats on your 3 months and your successes! :) :) :) And L-in-NJ you are so right! Everyone on this site is wonderful! :)

Welcome JD. What were the reasons you had surgery? I think maybe if you focus on those, things will get better.

Walking also helps. My philosophy is that if I just keep moving, maybe I can outrun the depression. And when you are back on solid foods, I think you will be less emotional.

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

It will change, but hopefully for the better. Honestly it took me a couple weeks to feel better, you're still in your first week - give it time. You had 80%-85% of a major organ cut out, it will take time to adjust. I feel so amazing now - which I thought would never come, but it did. Try not to worry, hopefully all is fixed now. Good Luck:)

I'm 6 weeks post sleeve. Really struggling with portions. I eat eat just about everything now but more than about 1/3 c comes back up. My brain says it tastes good but its tough to stop at such a small portion when 6 weeks ago I had big appetite.

Since these were very similar threads covering the same topic, I merged them. I can remember being somewhat "blue" myself and prone to allow myself to get that way if I'm not feeling well. Here's what I know - THIS TOO SHALL PASS! Once you are feeling a little stronger, and able to really handle your newly sleeved self, life will look definitely brighter!

Especially, when the scale starts moving swiftly down!!!!!! As they used to tell me, "Keep your double chin up!" LOL And if you have one, it will be GONE shortly!!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
