I'm still in the experimentation stage and am trying different food combinations and calorie intake each week to see what it will take to consistently lose. I seem to lose 2 or 3 lbs one week then not lose anything for 2 weeks. But this is what I did this past week to get the scale moving again (drop 2 lbs). I lowered my caloric intake to 800-1000. I do not eat Breakfast but drink a cup of coffee and that keeps hunger away for about 2-3 hrs. For snack around 10 a.m., I drink a Protein Shake that gives me 33 grams of Protein. lunch is fish (salmon or tuna 3 x's a week) and a vegetable and I normally eat that around 2 p.m. dinner is one or two cups of vegetable Soup which is 60-120 calories. Sanck is SF Fudgecicle and a glass of milk. I feel like I am starving but until I can get to that optimum fill, this is what i'll be doing. I refuse to let the scale go backwards. Oh, I do walk 5 days for 2-3 miles and I do weight resistance training with bands every other day. I am a bit disappointed that I can't lose consuming over 1000 calories (despite the website calculation saying I should be able to lose 2 lbs a week consuming 1200-1500 calories with my activity level)...............yeh, right...............it doesn't work!!!

It doesn't look like my doctor's office made a calorie recommendation (reading through my binder about nutrition they gave me), so I'm sticking to around 800 or less. This was an interesting poll. I wasn't sure if I was having too few. I think once I get into running I'll have to kick up the calories just a bit because I think if I tried running now, I'd feel weak. But for day-to-day activity to include my patrol job, 800 or less is not bad.

Steph,

I love the Marianne Williamson quote! Thank you for inspiring me. It resonated in the deepest ways... She is remarkable. I am a student of her friend, Byron Katie. She is an amazing woman, too and I use her process, called "The Work", to question the stressful thoughts that led to my eating. She has a website, www.thework.com

Anyway, thank you for giving me just what I was supposed to hear today. Love to you.

I voted 1000 to 1200 but some days i take in 800.

Some of the 800 calorie days are to jump start the scale if it's slow and sometimes it's because of a fill (like today). I'm a little sore and just didn't want too much. Full liquids again tomorrow and then soft food. I am always fearful after a fill of what I can eat and generally go very slow with food, my intake those days is usually lower.

I find the sooner in the day I eat, the more hungry I am all day, so my "best" days are those that I wait until 11:30 or 12:00 to eat. Whether I can do that or not depends on my fill status and hunger!

Forgot to mention the rate of weight loss on X amount of calories depends a lot on what your current weight is.

I haven't had a band yet. Submitting paper work tomorrow. YAY so excited. But since the new year I've cut out soda totally and trying to eat better. and I avarage about 800-1050ish calories a day now. Now just to get my ass up to excercise..lol But I must say, I am proud of myself so far

I've had the bodybugg for about a month now and I average 1205 calories a day. I go for a 1500 calorie deficit. so that is a lot of moving. On the days I run it's no problem I can usually have a 2000 calorie deficit. When I don't run, I try to cut my caloried to under 1000.

After keeping track of my calories for a week, I was between 1900-2500 cals a day, but I'm not banded... I'm hoping to stay between 900-1200 if I do get banded.

When I have a good fill I eat about 1500-1600 a day. I work out four to five times a week, usually 45 minutes at a time. Right now I need a fill bad and I am eating 1800 to 1900 a day. I am not losing , but not gaining either. I will be so....glad to get a fill. I could never get by on 600 -800 calories a day. I would fall out somewhere. LOL Donna:lol:

Well this is an interesting thread. I never saw it before today. I hope I can get by on 800 cal after my third fill. Now I need about 1200 to not be hungry all the time.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
