Frustrated And Impatient Preop

Recommended Posts

Ok guys my patience is running low!!

After doing everything my insurance requested, they had 14 days to make a decision. After not hearing anything for almost 2 weeks, I had to contact them only for them to tell me that they were waiting on medical records, and requested an EKG, medical clearance and lab work from my PCP, which i rushed to have done the same day the insurance requested it on 11/20. The surgeon submitted my lab results and clearance on Monday of this week, but I still haven't gotten a response.

The surgical coordinator said my tentative surgery date of 12/18 may be pushing it if they don't make a decision soon. I had already planned everything around this date.

Has anyone else had to go through this, and if so, were you finally approved or denied? I just need some relief and I won't fully have it until I have an answer! Please help!

This exact scenario happened to me as well...I kinda stressed to the surgical side of the situation and told them I felt my job was looking at cutbacks and if I lose my insurance I'll be out of luck! They actually pushed hard for me to get all the lab work and such as fast as possible...although this is life changing surgery for us, it's a pay day for the medical side, so when all is said and done, they don't want to lose a "customer"...I'm 4 days post op now

Thanks Brian that helps to know I'm not the only one. How are you feeling?

Right now, the incision pains are getting better already, however as expected, gas pain can be intense at times... It's a weird adjustment to this type of eating especially when you're not hungry at all, but know you have to keep your fluids up. It's also an emotional roller coaster , but the more open with friends and family, you realize your support is already there. My main focus is taking my time step by step and looking to a healthier future when I can actually enjoy life again!

I understand your frustration all to well. I began everything about 9 months ago. I did all of my testing a-z. I was scheduled for November but had an insurance issue. It was scheduled again for this month. A month before my scheduled surgery date I was notified that the surgeons were leaving. Basically I was out of luck. I transferred to another hospital. They were supposed to send my information in Monday. I made an emphasis on the fact that I had my surgery scheduled according to school break and my husbands schedule. They STILL haven't sent the information in and they will not schedule my surgery until they get a definite yes from the insurance. I'm so frustrated and I'm trying to have patience. I'm waiting for the possibility that I will have to appeal as well because I started out at 39.5 BMI and I have high cholesterol and GERD but no other qualifying commodities. I'm so frustrated.

I think that we all go through these feelings because it is a loooonngg process. It is demanding and can be emotionally draining. We all want a release from our conditions and it often seems that our sense of urgency isn't on the same level as every one else. I guess things happen as they will. Keep strong girl! Hopefully we will both get our surgeries approved. :)

Take care

Wow I'm sorry that you are going through this too, but kind of glad that I'm not the only one. You hit the nail in the head with everything you said. The insurance companies sure don't hesitate to take their payment, but when you need to use those funds, they drag their feet and try to find a reason why you should be approved.

I'm just ready to get this over with and hope that my date doesn't get moved.

I know what you're going through. The months leading up to my surgery I had everything planned out and estimated my time for surgery to be between Nov 4-12, 2013. Ha!!! What was I thinking. I found out that I wasn't the only one having the procedure done and I had to wait my turn in line. I was frustrated at times because all my paperwork was turned in and everything was approved by Oct. 23 (consent form signed), but I still had this waiting game. My big day finally came around Dec. 3. All in all I had to remain patient until they called me for my surgery date. I know in the end everything will work out for you and hopefully you'll have your surgery within the 30 days of signing your consent form.

Thanks! I'm glad you're date finally rolled around. Fortunately I'm the only patient scheduled for surgery on the 18th, it's my insurance that's dragging the approval. I'm praying for a response by Monday so I can finally rest assured! How are you feeling?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
