Another Tale Of A First Fill.......

Recommended Posts

Well, the long-anticipated first fill was this afternoon. It was over before I knew it! Very, very easy. Nice check-in with the surgeon and I told him how I've been getting hungrier and then hungry again sooner, etc. I did not have hunger immediately following the surgery and thought I might be one of those people who never require a fill. He thought that was pretty funny -- apparently that is very rare (except the plication banders). So this is what transpired: he felt around for my port and marked it with a pen (they don't use fluroscopy unless there's a problem), sterilized the area, gave an injection of pain killer (forget what it was -- Lidocain or one of the cains?) -- it was nothing! Then he was offering me an arm to sit up. He had already done the fill and I missed it because we were chatting. It was two and a half cc's -- no Fluid in my band at placement. I go back next week. I asked him whether we'd just be checking in and assessing how this fill is working for me or if I'd be getting a fill. He said definitely the check-in but most probably another fill. He described having a tennis ball size "meal" and not feeling hungry again for 4-5 hours as the goal. I drank a few sips of Water to make sure all was well and then downstairs in the hospital cafe I had a cup of tea with honey. Then I had a big walk around the hospital parking lot twice -- something I'm trying to do every time I go there, which is fairly frequently in these beginning stages. Tonight I will have a bit of the brothy part of a stew I am serving to family and friends -- we have kids over -- and tomorrow is supposed to be back to normal. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom.

it sounds like you have a neat doctor, who understands the band well. this is the first fill where i am actually understanding the concept a bit better and i am 6mos out. i am on mushies now so had my fav. of scrambled eggs. i fixed 3 but was only able to eat 1 portion of it. i stayed satisfied until i made a hearty chicken Soup. the chicken i pulverized. i was able to eat a cup of that and feel so completely happy. i am not afraid anymore. i was afraid that i would never have a green zone. but i do believe i am hitting it. my next app't isn't until the 26th of dec. . until than i am truly concentrating on soft signals and Portion Control. i am going to be a good bandster. :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
