Diagnosed Today After A Long Battle

Recommended Posts

Hi donna,

I am very sorry to hear about the Lupus. I think being on Plaquenil is super. My husband has a form of Lupus and at first was on so much Predisone his sugar went very high and he had 6 shots a day and now is on 2 pills a day with the Plaquenil. He never had any side effects. He did find going to the gym and working on his muscles helps a lot. I know it is an immune problem and he is missing 'A', his sister is missing A, B and C. I had my sons checked and they are fine. If you have children, maybe have them checked.

Feel better and keep your wonderful smile on.

Arlene

How ironic. My daughter was just prescribed Plaquinil (I'm spelling it wrong) tonite. She was diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, which is essentially like a combination of Lupus, Scleroderma, and Polymyositis. We thought she had RA but her blood work came back with MCTD instead.

We'll have to keep in contact, Donna. We can compare notes how you and my daughter are both doing on the med. She started it tonight.

:(

Missy I stopped taking the Plaquenil after 2 days, have heard and read so many bad side effects to it and irreversible eye probs with it that I didn't want to take a chance. Although my doc says its safe I know what I read and he even stated see an eye dr every 6 months, hello, it can mess up your retina. My pain is sporadic, not constant, don't know if weather plays a part in it or not but today we had an ice storm here in western ky and it is bitter cold and i've been in pain all day today, took a pain pill but its not knocking it, still in pain as i sit here, getting ready to go to bed, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. PM me if you want. Sorry to hear about your daughter. My doc mentioned that with me along with lupus.

I read about the possible eye problems, too. However statistically speaking, it's a very rare side effect. She's doing very well on it so far and I've made an appointment with my ophthalmologist for her to get a base line exam. I have to get my eyes checked every 6 months because of the MS so I figure I'll just hers checked at the same time.

Is your pain related all to muscles?

I have fibro in my back and my rheumetoligist dr gives me flexeril to help with the pain of knotting muscles. Would this be any help to you? I'm sorry you're going thru so much it must be discouraging....but try to keeo a smile in your heart. You have many friends here concerned for you and coming here to vent does help. Bless you and prayers coming your way.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
