Can The Sleeve End A Lifetime Of Yo-Yo?

Recommended Posts

I am seriously considering vsg and finding these boards so helpful! I am curious if anyone had a history of major yo-yo weight loss and gain? Over the last 25 years I have lost and re-gained 80 pounds about every 5 years. :-( I am now at my all time high and know that I could probably lose the weight on my own again but I would be very likely to gain it all back again and I am so tired of this cycle. Any advice? Thanks so much!

Almost everyone who posts ends up sharing their yo yo stories. A lot of people will tell you that it was never hard for them to lose the weight, the problem is they kept putting it back on. For most people that's what the sleeve seems to have helped.

I will tell you in a couple years. :) But from reading the stories from people here who are 1, 2, 3, 5 years out? Yep.

Agreed, I'm only a year out, but I feel very differently than I have in the past. This time around it feels doable long term. It would always take me about a year to the weight off and by that time I was so over "dieting". I would stop and gain the weight back. This time around, my focus is totally different, I no longer feel like i'm on a traditional diet like before. The restriction is the biggest help, Loss of hunger is a huge bonus too.

I have met a couple of people that had the sleeve and re gained. But I sure as hell haven't gone though all this just to do it again!

The sleeve is a tool. A great one if used correctly. If I eat the right foods, portion sizes, liquids, follow guidelines, including exercise, I am going to be successful. If I eat all the wrong foods and don't exercise, I will not be successful and will gain. You control this.

I hope so. So far it has been a great help but i am only 5 months out. i managed to keep weight off for 5 years once but it was so much harder than it is now. I feel i can easily keep doing what i am doing.

I'm curious about these regains. Did they regain everything they'd lost or just some of the weight?

I think the sleeve makes the yo yoing effect easier to overcome. However, it will be up to you to make sure that you don't regain. I know you have heard the phrase "The sleeve is a tool to help you." That is true, you can eat around your sleeve and regain the weight. Hopefully, during the first year you will have retrained your eating skills and learned more about what you did in the past and improve it. That is truly what it is all about. Many are successful and some are not. It will be up to you! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
