I got a call from my hospital at 4:30 telling me my insurance has authorized them to collect the remainder of my deductible ($2400 I don't have). I asked the woman if I could set up a payment plan and she said if I needed that I should have set it up ahead of time and it wasn't an option now. I asked her what they do for emergency room patients and she said she only works with the surgical side and doesn't know. So I asked what do I do if I can't come up with the money on time? She said "I suggest you call your surgeon and cancel." As if I don't have enough stress. I knew my dad and mom would lend me the money. But they were both at work and I couldn't talk to them until after 5 (when my surgeons office would close). I put a call in to the patient advocate I have met a few times in my many hospitalizations at this hospital and I called the main hospital line. They said anyone who can help me is gone for the day and won't return until 8 tomorrow. My surgery is supposed to happen at 830. I am in full panic. I am sticking to my liquids (even though I wanted my chicken sandwich as soon as I heard I may not be able to have surgery tomorrow). And I will show up tomorrow. I feel I have called anyone I can. I don't know what else to do.

First. Calm down.

Are your parents loaning you the money? If so, take the check with you tomorrow. They called you at 4:30. Business offices usually close 4-5 so there is no way you could've gotten it to them anyway. Give the check to your patient advocate/etc in the morning before surgery. Mine would've billed me instead of demanding it up front, but each place is different. The main thing is to remain calm. These things happen. If nothing else, while you're in surgery someone can go pay that for you.

Yeah. I have talked to my parents. And of course I need to pay. I was just shocked that the woman said pay it all or cancel your surgery. I have had multiple surgeries here and had my daughter at this hospital and have never had an issue like this before. So I was just thrown off by her two options. I am still paying a hospital bill from an ER visit with our daughter in October so I know this is an option and doesn't need to be paid all up front. But I now have the money from my parents. Mom was always going along. Now she will be an investor. Lol.

Yes! All but my super comfy sports bra which is in the dryer. And I took half of a Xanax after that call. Lol.

Oh my god, I would go absolute ape sh!t. Seriously. It sounds like you have awesome parents just like I have my "worlds best dad"! But holy hell. I'm so sorry you had/have to deal with that. What asshats waiting until 4:30 to call you with that!

Xanax and parents for the win!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
