5 Days Post Op- Worse Pain & No Appetite

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So I had my gastric sleeve done on Friday the 22nd nov. My first 2 -3 days were hell... I was in excruciating pain & constantly feeling nauseous.... I used the analgesia as much as I wanted.. And the anti-emetics.

Now at day 5 and still in hospital as I now have pneumonia ... I have absolutely no desire to drink my fluids.. The thoughts of it makes me feel sick.. I'm still taking strong analgesia.. Please if anyone was in a similar situation to me and recovered well please let me know. Any other tips would be great also..

Hi there, I know what u are going thru. I did not stay in the hospital but 2 days, but the next week was hell! I had the hardest time getting anything down. Have you been walking? U must get up and walk many times a day! That is what helps ur lungs get cleared out, plus it helps the healing process begin and u will feel so much better!! U r OK on fluids while in the hospital, u r basicly teaching ur stomach how to handle fluids. Keep trying, teeny tiny sips at a time. Crystal lite is still the only thing that settles easy and it has got to be cold!!! I was concerned about getting dehydrated after leaving the hospital, I made sure I got my fluids in so please be sure to do that, it is so very important. U don't want to go there!!! A little tip about Crystal Light, I have to use one individual pkg per 32 oz of Water, 16 oz makes it too sweet! I hope this helps and I will answer any questions I can! Good luck, hope u feel better real soon! Oh, and no appetite is totally normal! It will come back!

I am not sure how much this will help but I was sleeved the same day as you I was very sick from the meds, I felt dizzy and sick once I stopped all the meds ( once at home) and made myself walk ( horrible gas pains) it got better but today is the first day I have really drank enough I also had sugar free applesauce (yummy) the Jello and Protein was making me sick at the smell of it. Hang in there I know it will get better for you!

I had a rough recovery also. Felt like the oddball here-listening to everyone talk about running 12 miles the day after surgery...

Day 5 I was miserable.my back started hurting, my hands started contracting and my face was smirking on its own. Thought I had a leak. Went to the ER and was immediately diagnosed with a medication (Reglan) allergy. As soon as they gave me benadryl in my iv, I felt relief. Said Reglan was notorious for causing my sympyoms.

Was barely getting in 8 oz of Protein shake and 16 oz of fluids during the day. Took my liquid vicodin as often as I could. Too uncomfortable to sleep. I really was regretting my decision to have the revision. But my hubby kept reminding me that my band had to come out anyway so why not remove my tummy?

By day 7 or 8 I started feeling much better. Hunger came back on day 10 so I was able to get my fluids and Protein in. Im 4 mths out and feel terrific. Felt fantastic at about 2 wks.

Good luck. I feel ur pain

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
