Talked to my insurance co. today...BC/BS Mass. The lady I talked to was shocked that they charge such a large administrative fee....it of course is not covered. She also said that since I have to pay the nutritional fee upfront it must be out of network and therefore not covered either. She suggested that I ask if I can take a nutrition class with someone in network so it would only be a $20. co-pay. I'm pretty sure there would be a reason why I can't do that so I don't think I will even ask. Maybe someone on here knows the answer.

Oh well! I have an appointment next week for my cardiac evaluation....the wheels are starting to turn. :clap2:

no, i dont have a surgery date yet. today i faxed the coordinator a copy of my approval letter. i better call tomorrow and make sure she got it.

i never did get a bill for 200 dollars from the nutritionist. (Hope she doesnt read this forum!!!!) hopefully, that is one thing that did fall thru the crack. i went to see her on feb5. so you would think i would have gotten a bill by now. but i do remember her saying there were some computer problems that day.

the coordinator just called and gave me a date: june 13.

most poor boss is going to cringe when i tell him that because it is right in the middle of my only co-worker's vacation. which means he will be there all by himself!! oh, well.

i am a little scared but that is normal. i really should try to lose 10 pounds so my liver will shrink before the surgery. hmmmm.

I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! You have put fire under my feet!! I will be calling tomorrow to get an appointment with the surgeon, hopefully they'll let me schedule before they get my administration fee on Friday!!!

As for the bill coming for the nutritionist, I think you can forget about that coming because every one is suppose to pay that up front before you even get in to see her,so I guess that is one free service that you received out of some of their high price service :) Keep me posted I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!

got the letter with various instructions today.

i see the doctor again on may 31 ad then have preadmission testing on june 7. there is lab work and a chest xray and a EKG and something called Incentive Spirometer Instruction--what the heck is that?

there is also a bariatric pre-op class that day.

then june 13 is the big day!

i went to the thrift store today and bought some "new to me" clothes that are way too small. not the first time i have ever done that--but for the first time i am reasonably assured that i will actually be able to fit in them soon!!!! going to the thrift stores is going to be fun again!!!!!

I took my paper work and administration fee in on Thursday 5/24/07, I couldn't set up an appointment they said they had to get all of my paper work together and they will call me some time this week. You have inspired me to get all things in order so I can have the surgery maybe by the end of July, or the begining of Aug. I hope that is not an unrealistic dream, I need this so bad!! I even went out yesterday with my husband looking at cars, I end up wanting a sports car, since I know by the time I will get a new car I will be lot lighter the what I am!!! I am also looking at clothing that I want to wear also. I just thinking, if I had of taking care of my paper work in a timely maner, we would be having a close surgery date:( oh well I can only go forward from here. You'll have to keep me posted on how things are going with you!

if you dont hear from them in a week--call them. you have to be very proactive with them.

i went for my presurgery visit with dr choban yesterday. it was just to explain all the dangers and have me sign a release form.

she is very likeable and i can see why she always gets standing ovations at the meetings.

i told her i needed a work excuse. she asked how long i wanted off and i told her a month. She looked at me like i was crazy. she said most people go back to work after 4 days. i told her i had 10 months of accumulated sick leave that i will lose if i dont use before i retire. she said "we'll give you two weeks and that is stretching it"

crap.

i was really looking forward to some time off!!! and i wanted to kind of be on solid food before i went back to work.

i told my boss that my friend got two weeks off for an ingrown toenail!!!

i got three books from the library: Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery

it has lots of recipes and the author had the lap band

Fighting Weight-by Khaliah Ali--she had the lap band

and Before and After(Living & Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery)

I have an appt. to see Dr. Choban on June 19, hopeful after I see her they will send my paper work into the Ins. Company soon so they can approve it FAST!! I'm glad you informed that Dr. Choban is likeable.

:dance:OH MY GOSH Debbie you only have 9 more days before your gonna be a Banded Lady!! I am So happy for you and jealous at the same time I guess I shouldn't have dragged my feet with all of my appt's. Oh well hopeful I will have an Aug. surgery date. Do you think that is a realilistic goal? So Dr. Choban only wants to give you 2 weeks off, I won't be able to take STD I will need to use some of my vacation days, oh well tahts ok I didn't have plans to go any where this year. Did she say how long you would have to stay in the hospital? I would love to go home the same day! As I said before the only one who knows that I'm having this done is my Husband. Talk to you later and I will keep you in my Prayers!

you will really like dr choban, she is cool!

i would say that august is a very realistic goal. it might even be sooner. it just depends on how fast your insurance company approves it.

you may not need to take two weeks off. from the way the dr talked most people only take 4 days off. i just wanted more time off.

i go for pre admission testing on thursday and there is some kind of a class that day, too. so i am putting off buying stuff till then. i want to see what they recommend.

i think that list of stuff you need in in FAQs.

also i am pretty sure they want you to spend one night in the hospital. which i though was strange because most places do it as an outpatient surgery.

:biggrin1: Dibbie you have less then 24 hours and you will be a new Banded Baby!! I am so happy for you!!!!! I will keep you in my Prayers' Hopefully I will only have to wait only couple of months I want this to be my last summer that I refuse to wear shorts in 90 degree weather, and be able to wear this leather outfit that I brought that I have never been able to wear (one of those moments that I thought I was going to lose so much weight that never happen:embarassed:.)

It is taking long because they are not real organized about this whole process. You have to be real salvy. Also, make sure your doctor documents once a month that you are working on weight loss. Some conferences can be be done over the phone.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
