Cancer is back...No lapband for me

Recommended Posts

Well, I haven't been on here for awhile. Just as I was about to get insurance approval I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in my hip bone on Jan 23rd after about 2 months of unexplained pain. Yeah...sucks, but it has really made me realize something. All my life I have worried about being fat. Now I worry about living long enough to see my son graduate from High School. I could care less about this extra 120 pounds that I have on me. It used to be 145 but I have lost 22 pounds in the last 8 weeks due to pain meds that make me sick to my stomach so that everything except ginger ale and soda crackers come right back up. I started radiation 2 weeks ago and have had 10 treatments so far. It has shrunk the tumor that had grown through my pelvic bone and was preventing me from walking without extreme pain. I can now walk almost without pain, but only for short periods of time.

I don't want to go on abou this, just wanted to let some of you who read my journal whats going on.

I Love you all and good luck in your Quest. I know that God will do what he thinks is best for all of us.

You are right, the most important thing for you right now is to beat the cancer! You have a wonderful motivation, your son. I truly am sorry to hear this for you, cancer is so viscious, but it CAN BE BEAT! You sound like a strong, intelligent woman, so I have not doubt you will beat this. It will be hard for you - the treatments, but I know you can do it. Please know that there will be prayers from all over the country/world for you. I wish you the best!

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. You will beat this and you will watch your son graduate & marry. You will also have mamy grand babies someday to cuddle and spoil rotten. (Chasing them grand babies will get that extra 120lbs off too! LOL) Have faith and best of luck.

Donna...

I know this is a new challenge that you weren't prepared for, but you can overcome this, too. When the Cancer is gone, you will appreciate life that much more. Keep a positive attitude - no matter what. I once had a doctor tell me (post-op from major surgery) that if he could bottle a good attitude and sell it, he'd be a rich man with healthier patients.

I want to participate in the 3 day walk in October for Breast Cancer awareness. I have a good friend who is 2 years Cancer free and sweating every mammogram. I want to walk for her, and I will walk for you, too.

Donna, Know the saying, God will never give you more then you can handle....????

Sometimes these little scares, aka road bumps, arent necessarily for us! Just kep that thought in your mind.

I pray that God continues to bless you and your family on this journey we call life.

Sending good thoughts your way. Life has a way of showing you what's really important some times. I was all wrapped in my "career" when my son died. I had spent a lot of time working and not much with family and friends. It really made me stand back and take a look at things. As a result I've cut WAY back on working (I'm self employed), have renewed stale friendships and spend as much time as I can with friends and family.

Get yourself better - fat and healthy is better than skinny and sick ANY DAY :girl_hug:

Good luck on your journey. Sounds as though you are keeping a good attitude, and sometimes that is half the battle.

Beat the illness, and keep on going!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
