Okay, I'll jump in too. I am in south west lower Michigan...near Kalamazoo. I am being banded in Mexico with Dr. Sanchez on Novemember 17th. I am thrilled! It has been a process, as you all know and understand. If you form a get-together count me in, I would love to meet some fellow banders. Mary

Hi, I'm from Fort Gratiot. I was banded on October 25th in Port Huron Hospital. I must say I'm feeling great, but I am already sick of the Clear Liquids. In the morning the thought of broth or Jello makes me want to gag. It took me three years to decide this was the best solution for me and I'm feeling really positive about my decision.

Hi Michiganders, I got a date today, 11/14 (it's only 10 day's away) to get my band. I am really excited. I wasn't sure where to post this news, so I picked the MI thread.

Hi Everybody!

I am new to the Lap band site, as of tonight! I've been checking with my insurance company (they cover it) and "weighting" the decision to have the lap band installed. I see a lot of post from the Detroit area. I am north of Detroit and Hurley has a Bariatric Center, and I think that's where I would go for the band installation. Is there anybody else on this site thru Hurley and their doctors? I have low (as in no) thyroid function and taking meds to correct the levels, does that mean I would be ruled out for the lap band due to the thyroid problems? As you can tell, I haven't yet been to talk to the bariatric doctor about anything yet! Thanks!

Hi Everybody~

I just got back from speaking with my family doctor about the lap band and he did not agree to recommend to have it installed. He said there is the risk of dying and it is possible to learn how to "eat thru it". He said there was a medication coming out in the spring/summer that is showing tons of promise and he would like to have me try that first. So, I am not going to joining the "LAND OF LAP" as of yet.

I have been wavering anyway with all of the serious concerns some of the lapbanders had recently with erosion.

Many times before I dieted and lost weight (up to 70 pounds one time) only to have it all come back with a bit more! I used to be able to lose weight quickly before my thyroid was treated for hyperthryoidism. Haven't tried to diet since they "fixed" the thyroid, worried it might come off too slowly to keep my attention on the diet.

So, that is the news. I would appreciated comments from others, in Michigan and elsewhere, about what my doctor said and whether any have hypothyroidism with the lap band. You know, I am feeling a little sad. I would look wonderful a 100 pounds lighter.

Hi mother!! I had discussions with my doctor about the medicines. He one of the best (and most well known) lipid disorder docs. He said they are still at least 10 years away from a safe "diet" pill that will work. I wanted a pill you know an easy fix to solve my problem. After talking to him I understand why people are willing to go under the knife. My old pcp did not agree with my decision of banding either, but I knew it was right for me. My advice is do what you feel comfortable with. Because for me 10 years is too long to carry 250+ extra lbs

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
