Anyone Suffer From Foot Drop After Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

I noticed this about two weeks ago. It lasted for a few days and has gone away. I too cross my legs a lot.

I'm going to stop crossing my legs. I haven't had this issue, and I certainly don't want it!

  1. I'm so glad I found this post. I'm 7 months out and a loss of about 80 lbs. On Nov 8th, I started limping and couldn't get my balance right. Numb left foot. I did a little research online and decided I needed to go to a doctor. Friday Nov.15th I had foot x-rays, then they decided to do my back and after reviewing them, they sent me for a MRI. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm still not able to raise my left foot up at the ankle and still numb. I think the next step is a brace and a nerve test! Everything is happening so fast and I don't know where to turn... Do I have sucker written on my forehead???

I stopped crossing my legs and mine is about 50 percent better. I put off nerve conduction test and any further tests until I give it some time.

So here's something odd.... In august 2012 I tripped over a box of copy paper someone left outside my office door. I was hurrying to a meeting and wasn't looking and certainly didn't expect it. Skinned my knee and brushed it off... A few day later I was dragging and tripping over my foot and fell several times. I decided to go to the dr because I knew something was wrong. Turns out the nerve that controls the up down movement of your foot is in your knee.... And I had dropped foot. The dr mentioned it may have been weakened because of my weight loss ( I was 5 months from goal). I didn't give that much credence but now that I read this.... Maybe.

It took 4 weeks on crutches and 6 in a brace but eventually everything returned to normal except the back of my calf goes numb every so often.

I had never heard of a dropped foot.... Then or since.... Until now

I am glad you have recovered. I am hoping I will too. That we all will.

I know this is years old but @mbmoore2518 did you ever recover? how long? I have developed a foot drop and am hoping it is from losing over 120 lbs in the past 8 months and my bad habit of crossing my legs. Neurologist thinks so but wants to send me for EMG test. Any advice would be appreciated!

I had this once after lots of leg crossing after a big weight loss. I actually worried I had MS! A few weeks after I stopped the crossing it went away. It's very common with the newly thin taking advantage of being able to cross their legs!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
