Has Anyone Gained 2 1/2 Pounds In One Day?

Recommended Posts

I weigh everyday. I know some people think that is crazy, and honestly it is making me crazy. I just can't help myself. So last Monday I was 217.2. The next day I was 219.8!! I have been exactly the same for 5 days. Nothing I have eaten explains this gain.. Obviously I didn't eat more than 7000 calories in one day. Usually I eat around 800, so what is going on? It's so frustrating. I am 4 months out from surgery, and I have only lost 45. Haven't really stalled, I do feel it has been super slow. I keep telling myself if I keep following the plan things will work themselves out. Any suggestions?

Haven't really stalled

many OP on the board say their frustration about gaining any weight

no rhyme or reason that happens

Water weight - time of month - maybe a mood change

this is the place to vent!!!!

45 lbs in 4 months is good!!!!

i have heard that if you lose 10 lbs in a month, thats great

you are eating so few calories that you can't help but lose

sometimes "shaking" up your eating can help you to lose

even adding a 100 or so calories can break things up

keep up the good job :)

Sure you can bounce around. But you know it ain't fat. I'm in a pause/stall and as crazy as it can make us, you know it's just part of the way it goes, and 45 pounds in 4months Is super... I'm lucky if I average 8 pounds a month.

Do you have a fireplace? Maybe put the scale on a roaring fire tonight.

I'm totally doing this right now. My readings this week were 215.8, 213, 215.2, 210.4, 213, 212.8, 212. There's no real rhyme or reason; I was two weeks out on Thursday. the main point is that the overall trend is down. The scale is just a number, and it will be a bitch some days.

Best advice for you is to weigh weekly. My dietician says daily weighing will do your head in because your body weight can fluctuate a lot in the course of 24 hours but you can still lose weight over a week.

Others will disagree because it works for them ... But if weighing daily is driving you nuts here's my advice - stop it, lol!!! Been there, definitely more manageable to weight weekly for me.

Good luck!

First, breath.

I know it is frustrating when the scale gets stuck or, worse still, goes up. It happens. I have had several instances of 5 pound weight gain...overnight. Yes, I weigh myself every morning (there are many folks who advise against this but I have my reasons). My practice is dangerous 'cause I catch my short duration weight fluctuations. See a post, from a few weeks ago, by gamergirl. She was similarly disturbed by apparent weight stalls/increases. As she graphed her weight over time her increases/stalls smoothed out and she saw her amazing trend downward. I think her "long view" is wise and wonderful for us all. Too close a look at our moment by moment weight can make us nuts as well as give us a false impression of our overall success.

I use to weigh daily. It drove me crazy because my weight would move up and down. Then I decided to every three days weigh that was much better. Now I am lucky if I weigh once a week. I am down 84 lbs and continue to keep losing 1-3 lbs a week. So I am happy! Just keep moving and it will keep coming off! Don't be so hard on yourself. You are doing great!

Yup. Just happened to me 2days agp. Up 2 1/2 lbs. Next day...down 3 1/2. And I re-weighed 4 times to be sure!... I find the graph on mfp very helpful. It looks like a staircase...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
