You've only been banded for two days. Give it a little more time before you start worrying.

What have you been drinking?

I am at 50% goal weight. Something I have learned. One week you lose pounds and the next week you lose inches. Just measure and count. You are losing and you don't realize it.

Now, there are people who cheat and they don't lose an ounce. But for those that do as the diet challenges, you WILL lose. It is your guess if it will be pounds or inches.

BTW, count calories. You can get a Protein size piece of meat for 20 calories or you can suck in a Protein size of fat. It's a choice. What will yours be?

If you need 3K of calories to hang on to your weight many people will find a way to maintain their 3K of calories.

If you are seriously finding that you consume 1K calories daily and you continue to gain, then you have a medical problem.

Laurend...

You are correct, some people are soooo swollen from surgery that they cannot fathom losing weight right now. They swell and in reality it is Water weight.

I can pretty much guarantee that you're retaining Water. Between the anesthesia, swelling, and not drinking enough water, your body is holding on to as much as it can. You need to be drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day.

It's OK if you haven't lost yet. I didn't lose weight during my liquid phase either. Your body has bigger fish to fry right now like trying to heal from surgery. So, try to relax and let nature take it's course! You'll get there! Plus, although immediately post-op you may feel inclined to not eat or not eat much. It's important to get enough calories in each day or else that will slow/stop weight loss too.

Stacy,

I weighed myself 2 days after being banded so sure I had lost weight because I only had liquids 2 days prior and nothing but a few sips of Water for 2 days after surgery. Imagine my surprise when the scale showed I was 7 pounds heavier than my surgery weight!

I chalked it up to swelling and GAS. With the amount of gas pains I was having, I was certain I had at least 7 pounds floating around in me.

By my first post-op appointment, I had lost 8 pounds and my doctor told me it was probably more like 10 or 12 due to the gas still being expelled from my body.

I thought for sure I would have lost weight 3 days after surgery and I got on the scale and was 10 pounds heavier! I was so upset! Anyway, it came off and then the weight started coming off. I asked my doctor about it last week at my post-op appt and he said they purposely put lots of fluids in because heavier people tend to be very dry. He said that is what is supposed to happen to keep us hydrated for a few days. Don't worry--just do what you're supposed to and you'll see a change soon.

Right now you are healing so I wouldn't worry too much about losing weight. The weight loss will come especially after you get restriction (fills). Good luck.

I am on liquids also, I was banded May 24th and my belly is still huge. Mylanta chewables have helped ALOT...You might try that to get some of the gas out. Its terribly uncomfortable...I have found all post diets are different. Mine now is thin Soups and protien drinks 2 ounces every 2 hours. Compared to what I was eating before my body has no choice but to lose weight. I love this site...Im just figuring out how to use it. It is very confusing. Good luck on your weight loss.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
