My SIL only ever asked about my weight loos when it was fairly obvious I'd lost nothing, or gained. She never asks when I'm showing progress. She's not once commented on my loss this time. The closest she came was asking how my Mx WLS experience was.

I can soooo totally relate. I have sister in law who sounds similar. So, I saw her this past weekend, and I loved, loved, loved it. I've always been so much heavier, and now I'm not! I just got into size 12s, and it felt great. I didn't have to say a word or do anything, but i still felt a little guilty for gloating inside, lol! Funny, she made a point of telling me she lost 10 pounds and her pants were a size 12. Um, maybe they were, but her shirt had to a 1-2x. Mine was a medium :) I didn't bother to tell her the size of my clothes. I figure I didn't tell people what size they were when I was in a 26 pants, so why now? (Except for you guys, of course.) I also never told them about my surgery.

Yes, you will greatly enjoy that moment. Savor it :)

I have a sister that anytime I post on Facebook an update, she has to reply that she has also lost weight. It's funny that in my drop from a size 22-24 to a 10 and at every size change she has always made comments about her weight loss, yet she is in the same clothes as when I had surgery and they still fit her normally. I had surgery in may and didn't see her until Sept, and she lived a mile from me. Every time I tried to get together with her she had a reason not to get together. She cancelled family game night when I was able to be there. When we finally got together, and my uncle and cousin started complimenting my weight loss, my sister claimed to have an emergency text and had to leave. (her kids are all grown, and once she went home she never left, my family lives on the same block) even my family has said she is avoiding me. I have gone as far as making my status updates private to her on facebook, and when we rarely talk I don't mention my weight at all. The last time she saw me I was still in a loose 16, she may faint on Thanksgiving when I walk in AT GOAL. I am only 3 pounds from my goal as of my weekend weigh-in.

Oh that is going to be so awesome! You HAVE to come back and update us for sure on her reaction! And congratulations on your loss. That is so great!

None of my in laws know of my surgery and they never will. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Lipstick Lady I think we have the same sister in law! Mine has made weight comments about me multiple times, such as "I know what it's like, I used to be huge too" and "even though you are big you are pretty."

None of them know I had the sleeve. While she still hasn't acknowledged my 75 pound loss, there will come a point where I am no longer the big one that she can always compare herself too favorably.

I too am looking forward to seeing the SIL during the holidays. The last time I saw her and my BIL I was 70 pounds lighter and her jaw almost hit the ground (the BIL was very happy for me). Now that Im 98 pounds lighter, things should be even more fun (insert evil giggle here).

Ugh. My husband who is planning to be sleeved in December had to go visit his family this weekend. I got a text last night that they're all making numerous comments about his weight and he's "really taking a beating." Considering this comes from a group who are or have all been a) overweight, B) diabetic, and c) suffering from their own damned health problems it really makes me see red. I hope for him that he will be able to tell them all to kiss off the next time we see them.

Angry? Yes. Because I'm the one who has to deal with the fallout from every visit. I do not understand families…even my own.

Funny. My brothers have often given me a hard time....up until a few years ago, they called my little piggy. I remember them calling me that since early childhood. I don't see them often, but when I do, I will probably ask where is little piggy. I hope they have put on a few pounds!

Also, my ex and his wife...for obvious reasons.

I don't have this sort.of unsupportive family. A close friend was a big cheerleader for me getting sleeved but moved away a few months.later. she got really upset when I got smaller then her which surprised me. I chalk it up to her own frustration and don't hold it against her. After all, she was a key person in me getting sleeved so I owe her for that!

My husband's father is 90, and this has always been what he does. He refers to a very overweight, dear friend of the family as "the large detective." That man's wife has lost 100 pounds in the last year with diet and exercise changes, and although he used to talk to her about his concerns about her weight, now he keeps telling her she's lost too much. (She's still slightly overweight.) She says she can't win with him.

When I see him and he starts, I say flat out, "I'm not going to talk nicely to you if you speak to me that way." And he generally stops. My husband will then make private jokes to me about my brass balls clanking away. But he's not my dad, and he doesn't have the right to speak to me that way.

Of course, his dad is also suffering from diabetes complications, never makes diet changes, is simultaneously a food-pusher and loves to comment on how fattening things are…from a health standpoint he is quite active for his age and that saves him. But it's very frustrating to watch him alienate and criticize while knowing that every time we see him it might be the last time, given his age and health.

I think you should wear a helmet cam to capture the look on her face when she sees you! I'm guessing some slack-jawed expression followed up with a question about how you could possibly lose so much weight. I love it!

There are a couple of people that I can't wait to see in a few months - most are mom's that I know from my son's activities. They know I have struggled for years and years and give me such a sad look when I see them. One mom in particular has been treating me very poorly lately (I have no idea what evil deed I did to make her so mad at me she can't wave at me when I see her), but I can't wait to see how fast her gossipy-ass makes it's way over to me to start asking questions.

I cannot wait to see my SIL on turkey day. We have not spoken nor have we seen each other since January. At the time, she was about 35 pounds lighter than me and LOVED to gloat about it in a not so subtle manner.

She would give me her clothing rejects with a casual, "These may be too small for you, but you are dieting, right?". She loved to commiserate with me about our mutual attempts to follow whatever diet we were on but loved to point out that her points/calories/units were lower than mine because she was lighter.

Our last conversation was her snickering about another overweight acquaintance's failed weigh-in, laughing that she did SO MUCH better and me asking if she talked about me as nastily as she did everyone else.

She didn't like that. My bad... wink.png

Fast forward to Thanksgiving and me being at least 90 pounds down from our last visit. I would bet any amount of money she is up at least 10 or 20.

I can't wait!!!!!

Who do you look forward to seeing during this journey?

does she KNOW you've had surgery??!!! I have a couple of family member, both who should ask for my doctor's name and phone number......who don't even acknowledge that I have lost 85 lbs. ONE of them has never said a word, the other did at first, then stopped. I FELT bigger than either of them, but I suspect, even though we are all built a little different, we were all three about the same size. I don't care, but I find it amusing!

Have fun!! :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
