Anyone do great with the band and not the sleeve ?

Recommended Posts

I'm only 6 weeks out but I'm hungry all the time and losing is harder than it ever was with the band. Has anyone out there been very successful with the band and not the sleeve ? I'm really worried about this.

are you taking an acid inhibitor - PPI drug?Absolutely necessary the first few months post op sinc acide feels like hunger.

It is common for revision patients to lose a bit slower expecially if you are low bmi. How much do you need to lose still? As a percentage of your excess weight - are you really doing that badly?

I'm not taking anything except my Vitamins. I haven't had any heartburn at all post surgery since my doc fixed my hiatal hernia. Would I have any problems besides the hunger feeling ? I'm not doing terrible and yes I am a low BMI patient but I just feel like its so much harder than it was with the band and that scares me long term. I never felt hungry with the band.

I am telling you - and I know I am not a doc - but i am SO sure about this. You need to be on a PPI this early out from your revision. It may not FEEL like heartburn but I assure you that gnawing hunger is in fact acid.

Keflex Susp

10ml every 12 hrs for 7 days.

Sinergix sublingual

1every 8hrs for 3 days.

Tecta (Omeprazol)

20ml every 12hrs for 30 days

Any of these are considered PPI?

Omeprazole is a PPI. And band07, yes, this is available over the counter. My doc has his patients on it 60 days post op.

That is a very valuable info. Strange though how acid would feel as hunger

It is standard post sleeve med. Your tummy is producing acid for a big stomach and you only have a small one. Give it 60-90 days minimum. Some stay on it longer.

I agree about the acid feeling like hunger. I'm 6-1/2 months out and I'm still on Prevacid. I was pretty miserable until I figured it out.

It ticks me off that not all surgeons are doing this scrip as standard - i suspect that vast majority of people need it those first weeks and even months and there is no good reason in my mind for people to suffer this discomfort. Some people develop a chronic problem - but they are the exception. I stopped taking my PPI around 3 months post op if I remember correctly.

Anyway, try this and if you are still feeling constantly hungry, check that you are getting enough Water. If you still feel that way... I have more ideas but honestly, i think it is the acid.

She is absolutely right!! When you eat you are medicating. It is so individualized how fast you lose, don't get discouraged. Take a PPI.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
