Okay I'm now starving so I am going to change the topic away from food to a sad fact. two sad facts actually.

Sad fact 1. I shank. A whole damn inch. Apparently I'm only 5'5 now so it will take even longer for me to be normal weight.

Sad fact 2. My wrists shrank. So much for measuring your frame size by encircling your wrists no matter how much you weight blah blah. I am now closer to being a medium frame than I was before. So now it will take even longer for me to be normal weight.

Ugh.

Oh Sad Fact 3. I don't feel like worklng and I really need to! My kids are both home and I just want to hang out with them but the carpet is getting cleaned, all the furniture is moved around and really we're just going to have to leave the house in the cold and go somewhere and I need by Breakfast shake and I have the whinies.

At the risk of sounding too serious, I think this is one time in life that going so heavily by the numbers might be your downfall. I weigh 150 and am 5'5". Everybody always thinks I weigh less. i think the unknown factor is that formerly obese people carry alot of weight inside - extra dense bones were built for carrying all that weight, extra cardio vascular system to deliver blood and oxygen to all that body mass. We are all so individual, you really won't know what is "right" until you get closer. I say set a very realistic goal and then when you get there... re-evaluate and see if it makes sense to lose more. If you get all wound up in charts, or what other people weigh or what you weighed when you were 12 or how big your wrists are...whatever... it can lead to disappointment. My opinion, the scale is just a tool to indicate progress... real progress is health, fitness and looks (yes, I am admittedly vain). Too skinny ain't always pretty - just depends on the individual.

My surgeon told me that BMI charts are guidelines but not that accurate for people who were morbidly obese or people who are heavily muscled. I think there are several examples on this forum of people who look awesome, even though their BMI is something over 20 :)

So actually I agree with you in principle....and also--based on numbers :P

Given my lean body mass and my desire to be at 25% body fat, my "ideal" goal weight is 163. So it kinda doesn't even matter what my frame and height etc. I have this roll of fat on my stomach and my upper thighs and some on my back and when it's gone/smaller, I will be happier. BMI is not going to work for me, I've already accepted that.

I will be at goal when some combination of the following happen:

1. 25% body fat

2. Size 10 or maybe size 8 for my stretch goal

3. I can maintain my weight while eating 1300-1400 calories of low carb, high Protein and not have to struggle every day.

Y'all please remind me of this 6 months from now when I'm complaining I'm not a size 0.

I just had my BF% measured this morning. My BMI is still around 28-29 I think but my BF is 21. So BMI can suck it.

Yup, for Roger to get to 21% BF, his goal weight for him, at 6 feet tall is 207, which puts him at 28 BMI as well. Ridiculous. I think he's secretly competing with our 23 year old who has 15%BF.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
