Had my VSG two weeks ago, feel great, no pain. But while getting my chicken ready for the blender I mindlessly popped a piece into my mouth and without properly chewing it, down it went and it wasn't pleasant! If you ever have this happen you will never do it again. I guess I will always have to be mindful of what I put into my mouth and how much I chew it. Just a warning to all those who will be having this surgery. When they chew, chew, chew....do it!!! Never regretting for a moment doing this surgery!!!

I am 2 weeks out tomorrow and I could eat after 1 week (stage 3 - Soft food) I did not need to do the puree stage. Eating is difficult and you MUST chew your food well. I ate fried chicken last night, no skin or breading, and I over ate. It is a terrible feeling for about 30 min. I don't think I regret my VSG, but it is definitely difficult.

You learn as you go. I have over eaten to the point of MAJOR discomfort I think 3-4 times since surgery on March 25. I haven't done it in several months though because I have learned to be really observant when I'm eating. You will too, it just takes time and mindfulness :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
