Woe is Me :-)

Recommended Posts

This is more of a whine than a rant, so prepare yourself. I started a new job on Monday. I'd been consulting and working from home for the last 3 years, then got laid off a few weeks before surgery in July. So I'm used to managing my own day, getting things done ad needed but moving around a lot, not just planted in front of the laptop.

Now, I'm in a tiny office with 3 other people and spend too much time planted on my butt in front of a laptop. I go out a walk a mile or two at lunch, and either walk or do weightlifting after work, but that's it at work.

And how my stomach been complaining! I'm used to eating a meal and moving around, not being chained to my desk all day. That and the fact that I have a crappy car commute is killing me. I haven't been losing weight, I'm in a stall and pretty soon it's going to start raining and it won't stop until July 5.

I really want to start bike commuting again but I can't find anyone yet who knows if there are showers available, if there's secure bike parking ... and since I'm not an FTE it's likely that whatever ammenities there are will not be offered to me.

Did I mention that my stomach hurts?

This job was the first interview I went on and theyade an offer 3 hours after the meeting! I'd figured it was for practice! The work is ok, but the sitting is killing me. That and all the damn'd candy.< /p>

Any suggestions? :-)

They now make stand up office desks so people don't have to sit all day. Maybe you can look into the expense of that and either cover it yourself (and take it with you if you leave) or see if the company will pay for it.

Is there no an HR person to help with questions concerning showers and/or bike safety?

Maybe get rid of your chair and replace it with a Swiss ball or something.

I wish I could bike commute as well. 50 miles is just a bit too far though.

We have one of the exercise ball chairs but no one used it after the first week.

It had a back & you could make it either softer for less difficulty or firmer for more.

I dont work at that location & I am up & diwn constantly so that wouldnt work for me.

allons-y

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
