This diet is very tough

Recommended Posts

I'm just starting Day 4 of my pre-op diet.

Days 1 and 2 sucked - bad. Yesterday was better and today is even better. I'm feeling like I have more energy.

I'm allowed 2 shakes (w/ like 4 strawberries) and one meal (lean meat and colorful veggies).

I cheated on Halloween by having an extra shake because I was about ready to put my head in the bowl of candy. I knew I wouldn't stop at one, so I didn't give myself the opportunity.

Suggestions to those that are going to start on your two week plan - try replacing one meal per day with a shake for a while. That will help you when you have to do your pre-op plan. I also suggest getting off caffeine and refined sugars. I did that 4 weeks prior to surgery.

I start pre-op diet in 2 weeks. I guess I'm lucky. Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch along with 1/2 cup fruit. dinner is 3 oz neat, 1/2 cup green vegetables. Certain green Vegas I can eat throughout the day. Clear Liquids day before surgery. I started having Protein Shake for breakfast a few weeks ago. Gut out cokes, which was very hard! Replaced cokes with crystal light. Not snacking. Eating a lot smaller lunch and dinner, focusing on Protein. I hope this better prepares me for pre-op! I can see where I might also become very difficult, but hoping not. Good luck to everyone!

I'm on day 4 of 7 pre-op. I am crazy hungry, super weak and have a cold! It sucks big time but remember, the better you do pre-op the easier your recovery will be post-op! Shrink that liver baby! I go in Tuesday for my surgery!!! I also had headaches, my surgeon said extra strength tylenol was okay since it's not an NSAID. That has been a life saver... and microwavable dinners for my kids! Then I don't have to stand over the stove huffing the aromas like an addict in withdrawl!!! I cheated on Halloween had some bite sized chocolate. Felt TONS better the next morning but it just restarts the whole cycle and keeps you miserable I think. We can do this!

I work 3-11, so for a few weeks, I had started having a liquid dinner. I don't have much problem in the morning, because I'm not hungry when I first wake up. I have to get up at 6 to take my kids to school, So, I usually only have about 4 hours of sleep. I go back home to bed. However, this week I have been too busy to sleep, but staying busy is better for the hunger.

I start clear liquids tomorrow, and that (in my mind) will be tough. I stood in the grocery store for the longest time last night looking at which Soups I would want to eat that I have to strain.

I am day 4 of my 7 day liquid pre op diet. Last night my daughter's girl scout troop had an 80's sleepover. Of course, we ordered pizza and the leader asked me to go pick it up. OMG...they were not ready so I had to sit in the pizza place for 10 min. PULLING my fingernails out would have been less torture!!!! I was practically drooling on the floor. Then when I final got them....7 pizzas in my car for the drive back. THE SMELL WAS INCREDIBLE!!! The long and short was....I delivered the pizza, DID NOT even lick one....and drank a Protein drink instead. This by far has been my worst temptation thus far. I can only assume there will be many more. I did learn a little more about my eating behaviors.....

The thing is......normally, I don't even really eat pizza that much.

For those of you who resisted temptation, good for you... I know it sucks but it is so totally worth it. I am two weeks post op today and I go back to work tomorrow. Two days ago I was terrified, then yesterday I woke up and it was like someone flipped a switch! I feel great and I can't wait to get back to my life... So, for me, 10 days liquid pre op 1-4=hell... 5-9 = feeling pretty good... day ten = torture then surgery... pain not so bad as long as you don't try to get up from a laying down position for the first 1-3 days. Days 1-5/7 really hard to get in enough...week two starts to get easier overall... you will actually feel a marked improvement hour by hour! About day 11-12 pain got worse again around small incision. . Day 13, hmmm I really feel better, day 14, wow I feel great! Anyway... not cheating and being a little miserable for a minute is a small price to pay for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Good luck to all... I did it so I know you all can too!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
