Somebody? ANYBODY? Are my calories too high?

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the cross post. I think I narrowed it to much in Nutrition. Really looking for a second opinion from ANYBODY!

How do you guys think I'm doing? I'm no longer using MFP (as of 10/27) to track my exercise/offset my calories. Thanks for the feedback on this in another thread I began! But now I'm worried that I've blown my first week!!

I'm getting in 50-60 oz of liquid per day, and only using one Protein Drink (10-17 oz) per day. I'm taking all of my meds/vitamins. At my 2 week postop with my surgeon yesterday, I'd lost 12 lbs. Total pre/post op = 46 lbs lost in 6 months.

I'm walking about two miles per day, and doing vigorous chores like raking leaves. I walked up six flights of steps TWICE yesterday, and jogged for two blocks today! Don't go back to work until Nov 4.

I sure would appreciate your feedback/expertise!!!!

I don't think your calories are too high. I'm 5'6 and started at 230. Am now 191 and I am eating about that many. Depending in your height and weight that may be too few. Can you share those stats?

That seems fine, and if you're losing weight you know you're on track! The ideal combo of calories, carbs and Protein is going to be what works best for you, keeps you feeling satisfied but doesn't sabotage your loss. So far you're doing great. It's not easy to log a big loss early out when you've done a pre-op diet so I think that you're doing exceptionally well. I didn't lose any weight my first month until the third week -I even gained eleven pounds in the hospital!

Great work on hitting those nutritional and hydration goals so early out. It's a real challenge for a number of people (it took me months) so you're ahead of the game here.

Expect a slow down or stall soon but don't let it panic you. Keep doing what you're doing, because it looks like you're doing what's right for your body.

Congrats on that new sleeve!

At 7 weeks post op my NUT wants me between 600-900 calories a day. Sounds like you are doing good though :)

Looks to me like you are doing well. Remember, sleevers that are "more experienced in life" don't lose as fast as the young folks on here, and those with lower starting BMI's don't tend to lose as fast as those with higher BMI's, and last, women don't lose as fast as men. Your BMI at surgery was only 36. I will say that at 2 weeks I was only able to get down 500 calories max. I now keep under 800 calories at 12 weeks, which is easy to do. You are doing fine, keep it up. The only thing I would change is to try and get in at least 64 oz. of liquids. It does make a difference.

Thank you so much everyone!!!

Pjackson: Im on pureed now. I pretty much only eat protein: soft boiled eggs, pureed chicken or tuna, corned beef, skim milk, yogurt. My rule right now is "if it doesnt list Protein on the nutrition panel, i aint eatin it."

My nutritionist asked me, at my last check up, if I was "eating" my exercise calories" or "letting them ride". I keep track of my food and exercise with MyFitnessPal and can balance my calories eaten minus my exercise done at a final MFP of ~400/day. She was happy to hear that. She said some folks "re-eat" their exercise calories and give up one of the extra boosts that come with the sleeve....very low calorie intake and the opportunity to nearly neutralize them by exercising Consider letting your exercise just be deducted from your calorie intake for the day. The overall effect will very likely boost your weight loss. Good luck.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
