Why am i not losing weight?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on October 2, and at first I lost 10 prep and then another 14 post op but then nothing...... Can't understand how I can be only eating 700 calories a day and nothing is coming off!!!! I am back to work, working on improving my Protein intake which was only 30 or so a day up to 60 yesterday and working on drinking more Water but I am stuck at this weight. It's really discouraging after all I have went through. Everyone tells me to be patient but after over two weeks of nothing lost, how am I to be patient???? Any thoughts???? :(

Not enough Protein, not enough Water, and not many calories will cause a body to go into conservation mode for a little while. Do a search on dreaded "3 week stall" . It happens/ happened to all of us. Don't panic, it passes. Keep up on your walking, nutrition and fluids and you will be fine. I think 14lbs in 2 weeks is awesome!

Your body is adjusting. It will slow down for a while then start losing weight again. Make sure you are getting your fluids 64 oz of Water a day, Protein 70 grams, taking your Vitamins and exercise 3-5 days a week for 30-60 minutes. Keep up the good work and it will come off your body changing each week and adjusting to the your new eating habits. Good luck stay strong

I lost 1 lbs. in week 2 and 1 lbs. in week 3 after surgery. I was convinced something was wrong and the surgery just wasn't done "right". Turns out my average loss for month 1 was 3.39 lbs/week and for month 2 was 3.08 lbs/week. I am not one of the "fast" losers, but have come to understand the ups-and-downs a bit better now that I am nearly 13 weeks out. I have lost 53.2 lbs so far and am very pleased with it. But now that I've hit another week of losing absolutely nothing (my next weekly weigh-in is Tuesday) I've learned to accept the ups, downs, and flat-lining as part of the process.

Also...it took me FOREVER to lose a size in clothing, even with the 50 lbs gone. Like you, that just does not seem logical at all. But now that I've started, I'm looking to move down one more size soon as my "new" smaller clothes are starting to get baggy.

Hang in there! Your struggles and concerns are perfectly normal. The advice to be patient is right on the money, but not helpful at all. :-) That's why I was hoping this posting of my swings and stalls might be helpful. Can't wait to see your awesome progress a few weeks from now!!!

Yeah it's a lot of work, if anyone thinks this is a easy process, they are wrong. Working hard at doing everything right, so this begins to start working again. Thank you for your thoughts!

Thanks for posting Bea. It seems most of the posts you read everybody drops tons of weight and fast. I'm about like you are. It's depressing.

I agree Holly, I like this website but to read how some people are shedding the weight and then you are not.... It makes you think your doing something wrong. :( I guess it just comes back to the saying everyone's body is different and will react different. Still makes me wish I was a shedder lol. Keep strong, I am trying to. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

I just got off the dreaded 3 week stall that started after week one. I had to go to phoenix on business and lost it during that time. I eat my Protein from real foods and try to cram in Water but for me thats harder than it looks. I lost just under 3 pounds in 2 days so it is dropping again... you will see it drop.

Yes, I feeling the same way. Sleeved on 9-30-13 and 2weeks lost 18 and now the last 2 weeks have not lost anything. Taking Vitamins, walking, and trying to eat.

I stalled out at week 3 as well. After days (and days and days) of no movement on the scale, I added 100-200 calories per day of good fats and a few additional carbs - my body apparently thought I was starving it, so adding calories broke my stall and all is well now. I am a slow loser, but I'm losing... it can be very frustrating to wait for that darn scale to move! Hang in there!

I am in the same boat as you! I was sleeved on Oct 7, lost 12 lbs in the first two weeks. Now I haven't lost a bit in the last week. It's frustrating. I get all my Protein, fluids and Vitamins. I am eating around 600-700 calories a day. I haven't done much exercise, but tried adding more calories and exercise the last couple days and still nothing. I have always has the fear of "what is it doesn't work" and this just makes that fear worse. I know it just takes time. It's just hard when I started so strong and then came to a complete stand still! >_<

Well at least most of us is on the same stall page for a moment. Before we know it the weight will start dropping again.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
